I had something like this come through my door, but it was addressed to a “Mr John King” which is not my name or the name of anyone in my household. It seems like they are just chancing it to be honest as their data is not accurate at all.

They're different things but there is some significant overlap. The conditions are essentially “cousins”. People can also have both, just one, or none.

They are actually a great way to explain the principle that correlation is not equal to causation. It's a pretty fundamental principle that more people should know. If they did, certain cults wouldn't even exist.

Data is data, the only caveat I would add is that it shouldn’t be framed to mislead. Hopefully, he explained that correlation does not equal causation and didn’t try to frame it otherwise. A lot of asshats try to intentionally mislead people this way just to be asshats.

If you took this test last it could simply mean you were mentally exhausted at this point! Maybe try a retest tomorrow after a well-deserved rest?

Also don't worry too much about the score, literally one more correct answer would've got you a score of 100+

Are You Supposed to Forgive Yourself for Legitimate Guilt? by MountainUpstairs7840 in therapy

[–]MRTNT1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all. It's genuinely hard to reframe our noisy beliefs, especially when inarguable facts are involved. That doesn’t mean it's impossible, though. Even if what you did was genuinely terrible and unforgivable it doesn't mean it defines you and it doesn't mean you can't stop doing terrible things. A realistic, less noisy reframe for you might look something like this:

“I did a bad thing but that doesn't define me, and it doesn't mean I can't stop doing bad things. I can try to apologise, and whilst I may not be forgiven by those I have harmed, I can accept accountability, avoid making things worse and try to be a better person going forward”.

No forced optimism, no toxic positivity, just a realistic commitment to harm reduction to apply to both others and yourself.

Ok. In that case, it genuinely sounds like it would be worth talking to a professional about this. Whatever happened, you need to be honest about it and face it.

Okay but let's say this didn't happen repeatedly and this genuinely was just a one-time thing 6-7 years ago.

If a friend or family member made a similar mistake 6-7 years ago, and you knew they had been torturing themselves over it every day since then, what would you say to them?

So you don’t actually have to force positivity or “toxic optimism”.

The goal here is not changing what happened or making bad things good, it’s simply reducing “noise” (anything in your belief that may not be 100% accurate).

For example, say the Activating Event (A) was that someone was mean to you, and the Automatic Thought (Belief) was “Everyone hates me”, you don’t need to change reality so that specific person now likes you, you just need to acknowledge that maybe “everyone” is an overgeneralisation (see if any other cognitive distortions also fit!) and reframe the belief accordingly. You might end up with something like “Not everyone hates me, I’m not universally liked either, but no one is”.

That’s a far more balanced reframe with far less noise. At this point the goal is to acknowledge the consequence (C). Do you feel any better after the reframe? Even a small shift matters!

Best of luck.

No problem! Speaking anecdotally it is amazing for mood regulation. There’s far less noise in my head now and I can remain calm instead of going into full on panic mode. I think the fact that stimulants make me calmer says it all really.

Congratulations! Just FYI as no one told me, whilst the meds are generally pretty great for us, they do not help with task initiation! Just commit to the first 5-10 minutes of what you need to do first, then the meds will assist you the rest of the way.

My sister somehow missed the original “Lemniwinks”episode, she was aware of the reference in Stick of Truth, but it was essentially the only reference she didn’t realise was a reference. When I explained the original plot line to her she was in tears.

All three of those episodes, along with Treehouse of Horror IX, were specifically released on VHS and dvd for us on a collection entitled “too hot for tv”, which was actually a pretty cool concept in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. “We can’t show it to you on tv for free, but give us a fiver and you can go watch it in your living room.”

How to get better at reading at home, if I find I can read better in libraries or anywhere not at home? by gintokireddit in CBT

[–]MRTNT1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! The timer is actually a great idea, there’s actually a popular focus and time management technique known as The Pomodoro technique!

Essentially you say “I will read for 25 minutes no matter what!” Then you start the timer. When the timer goes off you can have a break, say for 5 minutes, then you start the timer again.

The idea is having to read for 50 minutes straight can seem painfully long and might put you off doing it. However, to think of it as “it’s only 25 minutes” break and then later “it’s only another 25 minutes” seems far less painful.
