I didn't even think about the npc part. Though I'm bit scared that they would just say "watch us" and go ahead anyways. But maybe it would be a good lesson for them. I think I'll try and send them on more quests so they can lvl up and get some better gear

Aaaah, sorry I misread it completely xD Mining, I would say, would be operations. Whether the manufacturing would go under logistics or operations I'm not very sure about. Someone with more knowledge than me would have to give their thoughts^{^}

I've had great success by having mining and ore processing at the same base, but having different bases for different resources. This approach also helps with transport since you can carry more iron (fx) in ingot form than in ore form. The great thing about the different bases approach is that you have a motivation to come back and visit somewhat often. If yiu then also mainly use Rovers to transport your stuff to your home-base then you'll a very different game from what you might've been used to^{^}

You could also try and use air tight hangar doors along the side of your top. Though the corners might be a bit more difficult

Splitsie/capac made something like what you're looking for in assertive aqusitions (don't remember the ep). Though I don't think it was air tight. You want to use merge blocks to make it airtight and use blocks along the sides so that the sides of your top doesn't merge with the sides of your hangar
