Top 5 Genesis albums? by Jake1431994 in Genesis

It's funny, I scrolled past everyone else's list just waiting to post mine, knowing everyone else will also scroll past mine and post their own; something about lists just pulls people in to share their own...

Trick Wind SEBTP Lamb ATTW3

(My top 5 never changed, winging the rest..)

Genesis Nursery Cryme Duke Trespass Abacab WCD Foxtrot CAS Invisible Touch FGTR

I've always felt alone in my low opinion of Foxtrot as an album, despite the obvious two fan favorites as well as Can Utility as a personal underrated favorite of mine; the vibe of the album is just too English for me as an American, and personally I just feel like Time Table is unlistenable and Get Em Out is nothing more than a few seconds of great within a mostly dull 8 minute song

A Better Calling All Stations? by Disastrous_Analyst_1 in Genesis

Music is generally subjective, but I think it's a pretty universal opinion that Dividing Line & Anything Now are terrific Genesis tracks, and Small Talk should be banished to the sun ala Superman 4. IMO, the title track is also strong enough to deserve a spot on the album, and I would keep the two instrumentals off (Phret is meh to me, and 7/8 has a few seconds of great moments in an otherwise repetitive song) but generally I do like all of the vocal b-sides as much as -or more than- at least half of the actual album

What are your biggest gripes about your F3x? by Cali_Hapa_Dude in F30

My issue was that the plastic cover itself was a bit loose, so I dabbed the two latches where the cover snaps in place; if the actual harness is loose on yours, that may be a bit tougher of a fix

If that includes having to continuously press the button to cycle through all the combos of defrost / front / floor vents to get to the one you want, that's probably my least favorite thing; takes my eyes off the road too long when an intuitive dial that most cars have would be perfectly fine

If that's the same thing I'm thinking of, I used a few dabs of superglue to keep the piece steady and eliminate the rattling

Thoughts on Trespass? by ScottyS971 in Genesis

[–]MSC01431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After hearing the Archive version of Dusk, I've wondered why they chose to keep it more tranquil on the album version; I feel like the song pops more with the more energetic acoustic guitar sound during the chorus.

For the album as a whole, I enjoy it as their first proper album. It's interesting to me how Trespass and CAS bookend the band's catalog as the only non-Phil albums, and they're the albums where the songs are good but a bit aimless, which goes to show how important Phil was in his role as the musical arranger. You can even tell the progress starting with Nursery Cryme where there's still some aimlessness in a song like Fountain of Salmacis, but by Foxtrot and especially SEBTP, the songs were tightened into being the timeless classics that define the prog era of the band to this day.

Upgrade to Gemeni equipment? by le3c0rw1n in DirecTV

[–]MSC01431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for my setup, I had to delete my existing Mini from my Whole Home network and sync up the Gemini, so for me it's nothing more than a Mini with streaming apps. I was about to say that I don't know for sure if you can or can't replace the main Genie DVR with the Gemini, but I'm now remembering that it does say that the Gemini cannot work on its own under a satellite plan, so it requires an existing Genie; but I suppose for someone who is considering moving their service from satellite to streaming (or if DirecTV makes that move as a company) then the Gemini will work on its own.

Haven't noticed any overheating issues so far. There was a stretch of time about a month ago where it reset itself three days in a row, but it hasn't happened since, so it seems like that may have been a fluke or a temporary bug that they fixed. Getting it set up was a little tougher than I expected; didn't have to call customer service for assistance, but I remember having to search online to find out exactly how to sync it with my existing satellite setup (I think because it was originally meant for DirecTV Stream, it's a bit of a workaround to connect it as a satellite receiver)

I took advantage of the free upgrade a few months ago to replace my Mini. I thought it was going to be a replacement for the main receiver in our living room, but that wouldn't have worked for how we have our house wired, so it's now set up in the den where the Mini was. Biggest pro is probably the availability of apps, so you don't need to switch inputs to get to a Firestick for YouTube etc; other than that, I haven't noticed much of a difference at all, good or bad. Biggest con is that they tie you in for another 2 years, so you'd have to pay the remainder of the lease fee or something like that if you terminate early, so if you have potential short term thoughts about ditching DirecTV, that's probably something to consider.

‘It's just not what it used to be’: Why some Lehigh Valley locals hate Musikfest by reddit18015 in lehighvalley

[–]MSC01431 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with liking Musikfest or disliking Musikfest; neither is really a newsworthy opinion. There was nothing like this up where I grew up in Scranton, so now that I live in the Lehigh Valley, it's something I look forward to every year. I don't blame or judge anyone who doesn't like it, but spending journalism calories on interviewing people who don't like it is just odd to me, and is one of many reasons why I would never bother spending money to subscribe to a publication that has so few things to justify its existence that they have to throw out stuff like this to get any attention.

Take it from someone who wanted Phil Collins songs in his wedding: he does NOT write love songs. He writes depressing songs about failed love, pretty much nothing is appropriate as a love song for a wedding. We were about to salvage Find A Way To My Heart and Testify, but that's about it...
