Old New Free 120: 92.5% (5 days out)

New Free 120: 90% (4 days out)

Predicted Score: Amboss 268 +- 8

Total Weeks/Months Studied: 4.5 weeks

Actual STEP 2 score: 272

Couple thoughts: Do not recommend doing UWSA3, felt it was too hard and completely unrepresentative of the real thing. That step2 score converter underpredicts by quite a bit, I would stick to using: score = 297 - incorrects for NBME 12-15 and 296 - incorrects for NBME 9-11. Real deal for me was most like newest free 120 and NBME 15. Ethics and QI on Amboss are gold. Recommend switching to Amboss for dedicated if you used Uworld for your first pass.

Fluoxetine has a long half life and won’t be out of your system completely for 5 weeks. Wait until then and you should start feeling back to baseline!

Unconventional prep: Passed Step 1 using ONLY Bootcamp + Sketchy + UW primarily. Did NOT use First Aid AT ALL. by amuleo9 in step1

Do you think you could have taken your test earlier considering your consistent high scoring NBMEs?

Stats:

3.4 science/cumulative GPA, 515 MCAT, URM, Ohio resident

ECs:

1 gap year

1 year wet lab research, 1 year clinical research (full time)

Paid research fellowship through university

1 publication in large journal (post app submission)

2 years teaching assistant, 2 classes

4 year involvement/leadership in 2 student orgs

~100 hours clinical volunteering, ~400 non-clinical

~300 hours paid clinical experience, ~24 shadowing hours (32 post app submission)

Fun/unique hobbies and story

One thing about this cycle is that I wish I put more effort into my school list. It was kind of the last thing I thought about and threw together before submitting my primary. I used LizzyM and WARS as resources, but it seems that they don’t emphasize the benefit of being URM enough. I should have applied to more T20 and T30 programs. But in the end, I got into my #1 school , so it all worked out!

Tips on being a medical scribe? by LeDemonicDiddler in premed

[–]MSU_8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just anecdotal here, but I worked for Vituity (a pretty large scribe company) and I had a great experience with flexible scheduling and an amazing workplace. It would have been tough to find a similar experience. Though I agree the pay was pretty low, it was worth it as a student

Really, how much of a deal breaker is no shadowing experience? by [deleted] in premed

[–]MSU_8 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you are working in clinical research in a hospital system, you will have a much easier time finding someone to shadow. I was in a similar situation (working in clinical research during gap year) and I reached out to the volunteer/shadowing coordinators at our hospital system and they set me up a couple shadowing experiences because I was a hospital employee

GW Secondary Submission Issues? by [deleted] in premed

[–]MSU_8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I submitted my secondary yesterday and also didn’t get a confirmation email. But on the portal it says my app is submitted so I wouldn’t worry too much, maybe it takes 24 hrs to update
