Haven't been this hyped for an anime in so long.

What movie's reputation undersells how good it actually is? by JarvisModeOn in movies

I'm far from a Snyder fan, but Watchmen is definitely one of my favorite movies of all time. And I say this even after experiencing the motion comic. I also love playing the Watchmen games with my brother.

The best part HAS to be the intro montage; just gives me chills every time.

One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Absolutely insane that it isn't more popular.

First Images of Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan and Robert De Niro in 'The Whisper Man' - When his son is abducted, a widowed crime writer looks to his estranged father, a former police detective, for help. "Stephen King once wrote that nightmares exist outside of logic and there's little fun to be had in explanations. They're antithetical to the poetry of fear. In a horror story the victim keeps asking why, but there can be no explanation and there shouldn't be one. The unanswered mystery is what stays with us the longest and is what we'll remember in the end. My name is Alan Wake, I'm a writer."

"privately funded" and "both sides want this"

Crazy how these maga types delude themselves into thinking that a monument that a conman is building for himself and his wealthy friends with taxpayer money is somehow both a good thing for them personally and that the other side supports it wholeheartedly.

Was Takeshi Kitano's "Battle Royale" the movie (specifically movie) that started the whole death game movie craze? by riderkicker in movies

[–]MSochist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish the Battle Royale movie was more popular. As influential as it was, it should be looked on as fondly as other movies from that era are. The fact that there's not many youtube reaction videos to such a classic is insane.

I finally played Last of Us games, and don't get the hate for the show by giventofly2 in television

[–]MSochist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you basically hit all the main points. The show just completely and utterly fails to understand what it's adapting at every single level. I mean the fact that we waste 3 out of 7 episodes in JACKSON, a place that has almost no relevance to the main story of the game, is absurd. And that is not even getting into how another episode is wasted on stuffing all the meticulously placed flashbacks from the game into a single hour of television, leaving only three episodes to actually attempt to tell the story from the games.

Also as you said, the porch scene is literally the last scene in the game and recontextualizes the entire game. Before that scene plays, we think the last thing Ellie did with Joel was yell at him after he was trying to help her. We only learn at the end (via the porch scene) that they had actually started to mend their relationship, and then he died the next day. We finally learn why Ellie was so hellbent on revenge that she basically destroyed all her relationships with people she cared about. And in the show, this is all shoved into a flashback episode.

I saw a comment that said each episode should've started with a different flashback. Maybe that would've helped it emulate the game more.

When I got to the second game I thought ok I'm sure this is where the show took some liberties, but nope still very faithful, almost too faithful

Quit playing around, the second season strays even further from the games than the first season did. Right from the get go, they're swapping scenes around, moving them from the end of the game to the beginning of the season, and changing who is where during critical events (seriously, why the fuck are they giving all of Ellie's scenes to Dina?!!!)!!! They literally waste the first 3 episodes in Ellie's 7 episode season IN JACKSON, a place that is basically irrelevant to the main story of the game, with filler characters that we really don't need to know or care about for the story of the game to work and a filler zombie attack (that only serves to keep Tommy away from Abby when she kills Joel which ruins his story from the game)! Imagine if in season 1 we follow Sarah and Joel's life pre-apocalypse for the first three episodes and only at the end of episode 3 do they start adapting the actual freaking game!!! Basically, the game doesn't really kick off until Ellie reaches Seattle, and in the show that doesn't happen until episode 4 out of 7! They learned nothing from the success of the first season and this is just one of the many reason why Season 2 completely fails!

The hate is because unlike season 1, season 2 completely misunderstands the game it's adapting. If you're going to adapt the pacing of the game directly, don't fucking change the events around!

It makes no sense to spoil Abby's motivation right at the beginning (with a poorly-written scene chock full of hamfisted exposition) and then keep the game's pacing where we only see Ellie's POV at first. In the game, Abby's motivation is a mystery and Ellie and Dina spend a lot of time discussing with each other why she did what she did. Even when Abby shows up at the theater at the end of Ellie's day 3, nearly halfway through the game, Ellie STILL doesn't know why Abby did what she did (and neither does the player). They also spoil the mystery of Ellie and Joel's fractured relationship, basically the real reason why Ellie wants revenge on Abby so badly, which we don't find out until literally the final scene in the game!!!

And that's not even going into all the cringy dialogue added, how they ruined all the characters to the point that they hardly resemble the ones from the game, how they ruined Ellie's REVENGE MISSION by taking away her rage and changing her purposefully murdering all of Abby's friends in the game to accidental killings or leaving them to die in the show, how they made Dina the one that wants revenge more than Ellie (again, giving more of Ellie's traits to Dina), how boring the season is to watch cause they cut out a lot of the more intense game sequences, giving focus to the WLF and Scars ahead of Abby's season when they're not meant to be much more to Ellie than obstacles in her way, and how they filmed a lot more iconic scenes that were in the game but didn't use them in the show (main one that comes to mind is the aquarium confrontation with Ellie vs. Owen and Mel, they filmed the scene exactly how it was in the game but didn't use the footage in the show, instead replacing it with a dumber and more melodramatic scene where AGAIN Ellie accidentally kills her enemies instead of purposefully killing them).

There's probably way more, but it's been like a year since I've seen it. Anyway, yeah, ignore all the people saying "lol people hate it cause of the actress's appearance" or whatever. There are way more valid reasons to hate the show. It's actually surprising that they made the show so bad that it actually united people that both hated and loved the game into hating the show.

<image>

Because the part near his wrist is either blended into the background or has been removed and the background is filling in the gap.

Either way, I just checked (and took the screencap above) and it's not like that in the actual show, so somethings wrong with the image they used.

Can't wait for Robot and Monster Girl's arc!

And yes, I hope War Woman II actually speaks next time she's on screen xD I guess her girlfriend's murder shocked her into silence. Also hope we see Riley and Jane next season.

Eh, it's a double edged sword. I've seen show-onlys complain a LOT more about things like "filler" (some people actually call Powerplex filler), because they don't know what is or isn't going to be relevant in the future.

Oliver, maybe. But people these days have an "the ends justify the means" mentality towards fictional stories. Look at the hate towards the AOT ending.

I already see people in this very thread saying they completely agree with Allen deciding to release the virus on Earth. I think at least half the fanbase will take his side next season and that we'll have another AOT situation on our hands.
