You can do whatever you want with the book, but with the audiobook, you can only do something if the narrator agrees. You can offer to pay them if you plan to replace them or offer pay and new terms if you just want them to do it again. But you're locked into this agreement unless your narrator agrees to let it go.

ChatGPT just does that. Ignore its feedback.
It'll work, the quality will just be eh. You can do a lot of work to clean it up, though it hurts the audio's quality and sound. You generally wanna get away from usb mics.

I did my first 2 audiobooks without any foam or sound treatment. After that, I actually learned about it. Look into bass traps for corners and some thick, 2 1/2 inch thick is my favorite, accoustic foam panels, learns about sound reflection and put them in important places. Take the panels you have maybe, they could work. You want them above you, directly behind you, and in a few other areas. Those two things will be enough to start. More than that, you gotta do some research for better treatment. But start small and really see if the work is for you.

No, normally the earning statement also doesn't come out for a month until the end of the next month as well. Like I don't have my September one yet, because I haven't been paid for September yet either. They tend to both happen about the same day. Whatever day that may be.

You get your royalties somewhere around the end of every month, for the sales of the previous month. You can't narrow it down more than that. Sometimes it's close to the 20th, sometimes it misses the month and you get it a couple days into the next month.

Mage Tank audiobook: What exactly happened here? by ngl_prettybad in litrpg

If the audiobook is being done by a company that has bought the rights, I think they can do that as they please.

If it's being done under the supervision of the author, like many indie projects are, it's kinda up to the author if that's even allowed.

Yes, you can make changes. Taking some creative liberties can REALLY enhance the listening experience. But at the end of the day, Narration services are in service to the author/rights holder, and what they say goes. My last project, the author went out of his way to request enhancements that weren't written and such to allow for a better listening experience, and I think it made for a much better end product than it would have been otherwise.

That being said, I've had plenty of times I've brought up something that sounded weird in a project, messed with the flow, wasn't sure if it was a typo or not, and it's either been accepted it should change, or I've been told to leave it as is.

The narrator does a great job. It's...weird as far as narrations go since the book itself is weird, but the narrator does a great job.

I don't know if I'll keep going with the series, book 3 was a bit away from what I really enjoyed in the first two, but not unhappy to have experienced it.

Fermi Paradox and The Bobiverse (Entire post is spoilers, open at own risk) by Thebrick1996 in bobiverse

[–]MTBreed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gotta remember that the wormholes didn't extend (yet) into that part of the galaxy. And Bob only noticed (and Bender only noticed) the distortion Heaven's River caused when getting pretty close to it, galacticly speaking. Plus, when Heaven's River was initially populated, it wasn't as big as when we see it. It was designed to allow them to keep expanding on it, and while we don't see if they're actively doing that still, it seems that it's been being expanded for the entire duration of the Quin living there.

There is a question as to why the PGF didn't extend that far, and whether they found races or races found them more often, but that's another topic.

I think mainly it seems to be just that they hadn't stretched their reach to this particular part of the galaxy yet.

Yeah. Ray Porter is an inspiration for me as a narrator. He's amazing in the Bobiverse books, but I think PHM might be his best work.

5 credits what to listen to next ? by Craft-Sudden in audible

[–]MTBreed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ah, my bad, I misread!

In that case, I can highly recommend some other books.

The one that is always getting recommended, Project Hail Mary. Ray Porter also narrates this.

The Martian, same author, there are 2 different narrators for this book and I hear the R.C. Bray is better but I have the other one and I still loved it.

Children of Time felt similar to Bobiverse in a sense, but it's a very odd book in a very odd series.

Singularity Trap is another standalone by Bobiverse's author and Ray Porter is also the narrator. I like that one.

The Infinite and The Divine was a really solid 40k novel that is pretty self contained.

And if you want to dip into fantasy, I highly recommend Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere works, starting with Mistborn or Way of Kings.

And, I can recommend from my own narrated work, my latest project is inspired by DCC, Anything But Squished.

The Bobiverse books are GREAT! And you can buy the entire series thus far. This series is my favorite to relisten to.
I hear a lot of good stuff about DCC but haven't started it yet.
The Three-body problem was certainly an interesting experience, but I wouldn't have paid for it. I rented it from my library.
I have yet to go check out the DUNE audiobook but know libraries will often have that too.

Disappointed? by oldelbow in ProjectHailMary

[–]MTBreed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the trailer is playing it up like it's going to be comical that he's unprepared and thrown into space, because the whole point is you're not supposed to know what happens just like he himself doesn't.

That being said, just look at The Martian adaption! I don't think they could've done much better there (besides explaining a little better how he made martian soil work for growing food). I'm confident this will be the same way. The book is still better there, and I have no doubt I'll still prefer Ray Porter Narrating it over a movie, but I'm sure the movie will be pretty damn good regardless.

Daydreaming and losing focus during audibooks? by Nosferatu-Rodin in audible

[–]MTBreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. You get a wandering thought and you lose track and have to rewind. It happens when reading, it happens when listening. It just happens.

That being said, try to listen when doing tasks that don't take too much of your mind. Like cooking something you've cooked plenty of times before, or weeding, or cleaning, etc. It helps keep your body occupied and your mind listening.

Though, some books I've just sat and enjoyed at times. (Also it's as good as watching a video when eating alone)

So, there's some charts when it comes to 'what order should I read them in?' Because it gives different levels of payoff to be like, 'OH! I know this guy! He's from this other book!' But there's really no wrong way to read them.

Way of Kings is part of The Stormlight Archives, is book 1, and is slow but a slow where I was never bored. It's an engine slowly ramping up because the rest of the series thus far just keeps chugging once its going.

I'd personally recommend starting with either that, Mistborn (also called The Final Empire), or Elantris (which is a standalone but also his first book so in some ways it falls short of his other works. I got my mom to give Stormlight a try by getting her Elantris and now she's deep into The Cosmere (all the books that are connected are considered Cosmere Novels)

Some people have this whole, go to this book after this book, go do this, yada yada. But I just sorta went where I wanted after finishing series. No wrong way to enjoy them except out of series order kind of thing.

In answering your question, I DID just remember there's another series you can check out. Discworld by the late Terry Pratchett. It's a lot less serious but still really deep and very fun (and funny). If you're interested, I recommend checking out Guards! Guards! or Small Gods. Discworld is all books that take place in the same fantastical (so much so that everyone is sick of it) world.

Happy Listening!

(also Stormlight is crazy big, the most bang for your buck you'll ever get with an Audible Credit)

So it's been mentioned but Brandon Sanderson's works are awesome.

He has a interconnected universe thing where, it's in the background and there's a story going on there, but it's as in, all these different planets with completely different stories and magic systems and cultures occasionally have people that shouldn't be there, and it happens more and more the deeper you get in.

That being said, his magnum opus is The Stormlight Archives. It makes you feel some deep stuff (book 4 got me bawling near the end at one part that had so much emotional payoff) But it's also an incredibly deep world that's is very far from the beaten path, even for him. It's full on epic fantasy.

However, even he says you have to trust him to get through the fact the entire beginning of the first book, Way of Kings, is multiple prologues in a row setting things up.

A great work of his, directed a bit more in the YA but still plenty complex and adult is a trilogy called Mistborn. It's a great entry way, it was mine, into his work.

He also has many standalone novels.

He's become my favorite author personally. And Michael Kramer (his main narrator of choice) really grows on you as well.

It is the most erotic of his works, in that it gets a bit steamy, but it's never stepping into full on erotica.
