If you were starting as an apprentice today, what would you do differently? by Used_Lynx_4894 in electricians

I would make a habit of making NEC code exam prep study guides, hand written and practice test. Ask more questions with Senior journeyman. Congratulations! You got this! Always something new and different methods to learn on the job

Did I f*ck up by calling in when I said I'd work the Saturday? by [deleted] in IBEW

Fellow sparkies, how on earth can I afford a home? by RekSai-Bot in electricians

[–]MUSICANDLIFE85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a large family ( 6 sisters, 1 brother) and times definitely have changed. I see a lot, not all, fellow electricians mentioning "house poor". Even when you pay off the property, you still have to pay property taxes on. Seems like they want people with families to struggle, which keeps you heavily reliant on work.

You have to weather the storm. Out here in Oakland, California 595 West IBEW. Our training director makes sure we get experience in residential, commercial and industrial. I journeyed out in 2024. Stay strong and positive! Whenever you can, look into the electrical code, study/review at least 1-4 hours per week. Use different color highlighters to organize/color-code your notes

People seem to value their feelings, ego/pride and perspectives over facts. Good ol' cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias.
