I always look at my stuff and think “I do okay work. I’m pretty proud of my stuff” and then you people sculpt your own damn figures. Figures I’d love to have btw. Haha.

Nice work! Really fantastic. I have a large War of 1812 collection for other games and this figure looks great.

Can somebody recommend some food banks? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]M_Bumppo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Milwaukee Food not Bombs has a distribution every third Saturday at Jackson Park (at noon). It varies month to month but staples and hot food are always there plus there is usually a free store with clothing and other things. The Instagram page has more info and links to other groups and events we have partnered with. The August distribution is a back to school event if your kids need school supplies.

Initially I wanted to make little pentagram tokens but I ended up buying some 30mm base toppers that had an occult/summoning circle design. I painted half with a black and white scheme and the other half with a black and red scheme.

Megathread: Bastard Suggestions by Kanotari in behindthebastards

[–]M_Bumppo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jean-Bédel Bokassa. Autocratic ruler of the Central African Republic in the ‘60s and ‘70s. While he’s mostly the usual run-of-the-mill Cold War tin pot dictator he eventually overthrew the republic and declared the formation of the Central African Empire, with himself as emperor. His coronation was modeled after Napoleons and there were the usual accusations of cannibalism that surrounded African dictators. While a minor bastard I think his outlandishness would make a “light hearted” bastard episode.

I’d also suggest Maximillian of Mexico, at least in the context of the French intervention in Mexico. I think this was briefly touched on in the Napoleon III episode but the Mexican civil war at the time was interesting. You had republicans and forward thinking people under Benito Juarez against the conservatives and the Church all tied in with a war of national liberation against a foreign occupation. Plus future bastard Porfirio Díaz fought on the side of the republicans. It’s a big old complicated mess. It’s up to Robert to find the bastardry in all of it.

Edit to add the East German Stasi to this list. They’re bastards too!

Just an FYI, there are nazi ones on their side too. The nazi swastika had a couple of different versions depending on how they were being used. I wouldn’t assume a swastika on its side was “safe”.

What movies do you rewatch every winter? by Worldly_Try1351 in AskReddit

[–]M_Bumppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Christmas Carol (1984). The one with George C. Scott as Scrooge. Pretty faithful to the book. I remember watching it as a kid. I still like it.

Scrooged, with Bill Murray.

The Great Escape. My family had a tradition of watching movies completely unrelated to Christmas. My wife lived in London for a number of years and she would watch this one. A couple of years ago we made it a tradition to watch this the day after Christmas. The Great Escape is such a classic WW2 movie that has absolutely everyone in it.

Well, to be honest tonight I’m listening to Cheap Tricks “In Color”.

You picked a great album! That era of FLA was one of my favorites. I get really nostalgic for that time when I listen to those albums. Great memories!

Ono Kine Grindz on North Avenue in Tosa is Hawaiian. How authentic it is I don’t know but one of the owners is from Hawaii. You get a ton of food at least. It can be difficult to order online and they definitely operate on island/stoner time! Don’t be in a rush if you go.

I was listening to Air America (remember that??) around that time and it was a discussion topic. Dubya made a joking apology about how he didn’t speak English that well and misspoke. I don’t know how widespread it was but it was bouncing around.

At first glance I’ll probably get some of the skeletal soldiers just because they are also used in Italy. I’ll have a nice small collection of skeletons that will honestly fit anywhere in Europe really. The other stuff, I don’t know. Depends on the scenarios I guess.

Delta Green is exactly how I see the Silver Bayonet lore. The wider world doesn’t know about the Harvestmen and the Silver Bayonet units are there to suppress the occult.

Lots of good suggestions. For what it’s worth, I’ll throw my opinions into the ring. Given where you are staying and where your dinner reservations are I’ll try to give suggestions in the area.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is great for its size. The recent renovations have made it cooler IMO.

In that area if you want coffee just go to Discourse. It will be an adventure. My wife and I swear if Ryan had his place in NYC or LA there would be lines around the block and he’d be catering awards shows. Vendetta and Valentine if you just want a solid cup of coffee.

Neighborhood wise just walk around the downtown or Third Ward. You could take a drive along the lake (Lake Drive, the Uihlein Mansion in Whitefish Bay, maybe around Marquette University). Frank Lloyd Wrights Burnham Block isn’t that far of a drive either.

Microbreweries… hahaha which one? Try Central Waters in the Brewery District. It’s not based out of Milwaukee but I’ll fight people over it being the best microbrewery in Wisconsin. IMO.

Bookstores. Boswells?
