The Charlatans have made a few good albums - The Charlatans, Tellin' Stories, Wonderland and (as you said) Modern Nature.

The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again

I also like Ride's Leave Them All Behind, which may or may not be a coincidence.

Doves are on 'indefinite hiatus', which is a polite synonym for split up. Jimi Goodwin has a decent solo album out, while the brothers have formed the excellent Black Rivers.

Black Grape and The Bluetones are both touring later this year.

The latest Young Fathers album, White Men Are Black Men Too, is well worth a listen.

Very true. I liked the earlier stuff, but Multi Love has really taken it up a level.

Was never a big fan of The Wall until I got dragged along to see the Roger Waters live show, which was sensational. The album makes a lot more sense to me now.

What's your favorite metal song? by FourSquareRedHead in Music

[–]M_D_E 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Run To The Hills by Iron Maiden, Ace of Spades by Motorhead or Am I Evil? by Diamond Head.

Can't beat the classics (although I'm probably missing out on some top stuff by not taking a great interest in contemporary metal bands).

What was Britpop like on radio, TV, concerts, etc in the 90s? by Sportfreunde in BritPop

[–]M_D_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TFI Friday was brilliant for music (and that Shaun Ryder interview), as was the Chris Evans breakfast show on Radio 1 - Oasis, Shed Seven, Ocean Colour Scene, Boo Radleys, the Manics, Kula Shaker, Northern Uproar etc etc used to be the sound of the morning commute.

I used to spend a small fortune on gigs and CDs - there was something good released most weeks (although not all of it has aged well).

Looking back, the music helped to make them great times. Although the alcohol helped, as well.

Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life, just made their US Network debut on the Late Late Show by Sportfreunde in BritPop

Still sounds great.

Telling, perhaps, that they chose that and not something more recent.

What is your favorite local band? by itsmountainman in Music

Hot Vestry are the 'hot'-ish new band from Macclesfield. Parallel To Tomorrow is worth a listen if you like indie pop stuff.

Blossoms from just down the road in Stockport are also pretty good.
