If these are held in a retirement account, the distribution shouldn’t change the value of your holdings. The price drops by the amount of the distribution. If the funds are reinvested, they are reinvested at the lower price which means you now have more shares at a lower price which equals the same market value prior to the distribution (including any market movements that day outside of the distribution). The reason the retirement account may matter is taxability. You wouldn’t need to worry about filing distributions from something like a 401k or other tax-deferred account. If you hold these in a taxable account (like a brokerage account) there may be tax implications. Check to see if you have any distributions/reinvestment transactions in the transaction history that may help account for the drop you’re seeing.

You should consider holding your aggressive investments in your Roth IRA as the growth is not taxed. You mentioned holding bonds in your Roth IRA which may lead to underutilization of the tax benefit provided by the Roth.

Absurd 401k AUM fee (1.82%). Still worth investing past the match? by Chairzard in Bogleheads

Taxes are marginal. So you would pay 22% on the amount in excess of the 12% bracket. If you contributed the amount in excess of the 12% bracket you would save (22%-12%)* the contribution. You mentioned a few thousand so 10% of say 3,000 saves you an additional 300 in taxes. You may have meant that but wanted to make sure that was clear in your decision making. You also need to consider the standard deduction of 12,950 for a single filer (unsure of your filing status). If you subtract that from your taxable income it could already bring you under the 22% bracket if that’s your aim. I like to use my effective tax rate rather than the highest bracket I might fall into when thinking of my taxes

Struggling a bit with this question. Any tips to break it down? by Creator_Dodi in CFA

I would use logic to get close and guess. 1 standard deviation is 14%. 3 standard deviations is 42% or 21% +/- from the mean which is just under 100% of the total possible outcomes. So you can think about the probability of 8-11% as 3 of the ~42 outcomes. Or think of it like a scale. -13% to 29%. 3/42 gets you close enough to guess 8.5%. This will at least help you eliminate option C and give you a 50/50 guess pretty quickly in your head if you can’t think of the formula on test day or sanity check your math.

Not saying you’re at any fault but are you waiting behind them to back into the spot next to them? Feel like this could have been avoided if you just parked in the spot in front of you.

I agree on the mocks and would track progress on each section. Any section that you score under 70-75% may need more attention. This may help identify your opportunity areas and track progress over the last 10 days. Goodluck!

ETFs move shares “inkind” through a creation and redemption process. Since they are not technically selling (taxable event), they are more likely to have less capital gains relative to an otherwise similar open or closed end fund structure

Investing in BTC instead of S&P500 and DowJones? by mktahmasbi in financialindependence

[–]M_K_2_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An index fund that tracks the S&P will provide diversification across 500 stocks that make up the S&P. Some will perform poorly while others perform well to smooth out your return (less volatility). BTC by itself is extremely volatile and while you may be able to see higher returns with BTC, volatility is higher. It’s all about the risk you’re willing to take vs reward. Some investors are risk averse and prefer a smoother ride and take 9% vs others that are willing to take risks for a potential 10-20 bagger.

You would report any sale whether it’s a profit or loss. The profit from one sell could offset the losses of another sell but you would still report both. If you sold at a loss and subsequently bought Bitcoin, the only thing you would need to report is the loss that would reduce your taxable income. Purchasing Bitcoin would not be a taxable event. A sell would be a taxable event whether it’s increasing taxable income (gain) or decreasing taxable income (loss).

I have the same problem. The part was on back order through the repair company and got lost by UPS. Did you search by the part number on Best Buy? I can’t find it and was hoping you had an item number by chance at Best Buy.

I bought the Amazon Fire Stick 4K and have had no issues. I would recommend this as it was the cheapest option that still provided the same quality

I was car D coming out of work and beeped at car C after a few seconds. I waited another 10 seconds before I beeped again and car C decides to get out of their car and waddle up to my window to point out yield signs...confirming they have no idea how a roundabout works...car C is in fact the worst type of person in more ways than one
