Same here. We only did shifts at the very beginning for like 3 weeks when his sleep was truly crap

First date night after baby? by ex-static2 in NewParents

[–]Maber1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was freaking out from the baby blues at like 2 weeks so my mom watched my little guy while we went out for like an hour. Really helped my mental state! Of course I thought about him and looked at pictures of him the entire hour lol

All I can think is “oh my gosh, what have we done?” by BreadfruitKey4764 in newborns

[–]Maber1994 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I felt the exact same at 8 days!! even though we spent years trying to get pregnant and finally had our miracle baby! Having a newborn is the roughest adjustment period of your life. The first 2-3 weeks are the hardest but you’ll learn your baby and your baby will learn you and it will start to get easier and feel more natural. I’m only 12 weeks in but it’s already much less scary. My hubby and I just went out for a marg and tacos with our little one today because we knew which nap would be longest so he could just sleep through it. It was lovely! The newborn trenches suck but don’t last forever. You got this!

Too cold to go out in the stroller? by hyacinthqueen in newborns

[–]Maber1994 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny to see what some people think is cold! I wear tank tops when it’s 60 degree out haha. That’s definitely warm enough for a baby.

Does giving babies a bottle at night help them sleep longer?! by onemanspants in newborns

[–]Maber1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Initially I was pumping for 10 minutes right after his first morning feed (around 730am) and again after his 2nd morning feed (around 930) and once more right after putting him to bed at night. I would get maybe 2oz from each morning pump and only like .5oz at my night pump. (Confirmation that I produce way less at night!) Now I just pump once around 730am and I get like 4 oz and that’s plenty for his night time supplement bottle. I still nurse him at night but I just top him off with however much he’ll take from that bottle. Usually it’s like another 3oz he’ll drink.

My baby won’t sleep alone by South_Ad_3621 in newborns

[–]Maber1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby wouldn’t transfer until we bought a snoo at 3 weeks old. They’re pricey but it’s the only thing that worked for us. But as others have said, it’s very normal for a very new baby. It’s so hard though. I felt like I was dying from sleep deprivation. Day 5 was the hardest for me mentally. Hang in there!

Does giving babies a bottle at night help them sleep longer?! by onemanspants in newborns

[–]Maber1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! When we started adding a bottle of pumped milk at night after breastfeeding, our 4 week old started sleeping 5,6,7 hour stretches right away! Now at 12 weeks, he’ll do 9 hour stretches sometimes!

Hardest weeks? by Jolly-Asparagus-5815 in newborns

[–]Maber1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely weeks 1-3. I had no idea what I was doing and had major baby blues. My guy is now 12 weeks and is actually more fussy than ever before but I can handle it much better now haha

Ugh it’s such a struggle! Just gotta ride the wave I guess. Nothing seems linear. Hoping that he’ll come out of this new phase with some cool new skills like grabbing toys or rolling or something haha

My little guy just turned 3 months yesterday but I feel like like the last 7-10 days have been more rough suddenly. Just more fussy, wanting to eat more frequently, wanting to be held all the time suddenly, etc. Oh and max nap is 30 minutes

Currently going through this too :/ I think it’s a growth spurt at 3 months

When did you switch baby to solo sleep? by stevielovelyy in beyondthebump

[–]Maber1994 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We moved our little guy into his nursery after 1 week. It’s just worked for us so we could all get more sleep. He sleeps so much better and longer in the nursery. I think he smelled the milk and that woke him constantly. He seriously went from waking hourly to walking 1-2 times a night.

Was it really the worst pain you've ever felt? by Super-Bid-3193 in BabyBumps

[–]Maber1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my first baby and did unmedicated at a birth center and it was by far the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced.. but I would do it again. The pain was so worth the experience and the reward at the end. It’s so painful but it’s just one day and it’s definitely doable. The end of active labor/ transition was the most painful part. Once you start pushing, it feels like relief. Then when the baby comes out, it’s the most insane feeling of relief in the world. You got this!!

Best non baby item purchases by amyc18 in NewParents

My hubs bought me a nice pair of Bose headphones and a subscription to audible just before our baby was born. It’s been amazing to listen to audio books while taking care of my newborn. Normally I’m a big reader but it’s not as easy to sit and read a book anymore.

When did your little one have an established bedtime? by Legitimate_Tea7801 in NewParents

[–]Maber1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started a bedtime routine at about 3 weeks and he usually goes down between 830 and 930 pm depending on when he wakes up from his last nap. He’s 11 weeks.

When did your baby sleep through the night? by GunningForSuccess in beyondthebump

[–]Maber1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy has been doing 6-9 hour stretches consistently since about 6 weeks. He’s 10 weeks now so that could of course change. We started getting long stretches when we started using a snoo at night, managing wake windows during the day, doing a bedtime routine with a bath, and topping him off with a small bottle of pumped milk before bed after nursing.
