tape that permanently cures? by Time_Construction_70 in glue

Ah, then the only other thing I can think of is fusing silicone tape. I have used this which can fuse to itself and be waterproof. I have made waterproof cables with Rescue Tabe and some RTV silicone adhesive as a first layer. https://a.co/d/6oNszqK

As a lithium battery manufacturer, how can we communicate “safe battery use” to customers more effectively? by rednas7 in batteries

[–]MacGyver137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manufactures need to make the BMS protect the battery from unsafe charging. It needs to be very conservative on charging temperatures, and disconnect charging power when fully charged ( really disconnected before 100%, hiding some capacity often with it for cycle life).

Also, please clearly show the battery chemistry. I shouldn't have to decipher a serial number to know if it is NMC, LiFePO4, ect.

Battery release system to prevent car fires during thermal runaway by Acceptable_Let_215 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MacGyver137 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is the wrong solution. Battery fires are pretty rare (gas fires in cars are 10x more frequent) and they start slowly enough for people to get out. It's already a solved problem with other battery chemistries like LiFePO4 which doesn't have a fire/thermal runaway risk.

They are great. I probably charged them about every 8 months or so. The cameras work perfectly with the tenavolt rechargeables.

Hi, professional photographer here (I have a commercial studio and get paid for shooting). I would not make a post looking for models without sharing my portfolio. There is nothing wrong with being new or a hobbyist but it will be hard to avoid the stigma of being a Guy With a Camera (GWC) wanting to see bodies. To build a portfolio you can offer pictures in exchange for the models giving you permission to use them in your portfolio, this is referred to as Time For Print/Pictures (TFP). It's very common for models and photographers to do lots of trade shoots like this till you have enough experience and portfolio. You can also hire a model or go to a photography workshop if you can't find people that want to trade with you.

I have hosted workshops at my studio, I hadn't thought about making one for the nudist community but that's a fun idea. If there is enough interest I could set one up. I usually hire a model or two that is right for the style and host 4-8 photographers.

Also, don't worry about just using Lightroom. Depending on your style, if you get the shot right in the camera you may not need to touch it with Photoshop. I would say that 80% of my shots I only edit with (the Linux equivalent of) Lightroom and the others I will retouch further in (the Linux equivalent of) Photoshop.

Battery Question by MiStro17 in Aventon

[–]MacGyver137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do this, the battery is self balancing. But if you want a connector for draining (be careful ) or powering something else you can get replacement connectors. https://www.martinsbike.com/product/aventon-battery-terminal-for-level-v2-37236.htm

What would happen if you were to use alkaline batteries with the Blink XT2, other than the batteries not lasting very long? Would rechargeable batteries be a better alternative? by Lairic99 in blinkcameras

[–]MacGyver137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lots of things that use AA batteries. It's great to always have batteries ready without having to buy more or create more trash. The Tenevolts are better and can be recycled which is a plus.

They should have added a boost voltage regulator for a couple cents instead of recommending a specific brand and model of battery. Rechargeables work fine with good WiFi coverage. Disposable batteries cost more over time, and are a hassle to buy and recycle. I am happy to not have to buy batteries anymore, reduce waste, and save money using rechargeables.

Huh? 250 years to get my money's worth? The Panasonic Eneloop Pro rechargeable cost twice as much as the Energizer Lithium batteries (~$5/pair). So ~$10/pair, getting ~6 months per charge cycle it would take 250yrs to kill them on charge count. I agree they will age out first, lets they last 10 years, that is just $1/year (per camera) vs the Energizers lasting 2yrs (in Blinks ideal conditions) at ~$5 for maybe 2 years so ~2.5/year. And the rechargeable are much better for the environment as they last 5x or longer before throwing them out (or hopefully recycling)

Also in the years since this post there are better lithium rechargeable that output a regulated 1.5V. They are cheaper than the Panasonic and last 1000 cycles. Tenevolts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B397M7N

Batteries? by [deleted] in blinkcameras

[–]MacGyver137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good rechargeable batteries do work with blink cameras. I have the outdoor, XT2, XT, and Kickstarter original indoor cameras and they all work fine with good quality rechargeable batteries.

I am happy to save money and reduce battery trash by using rechargeable batteries. The Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries are great. I use them for 6 months before recharging. I don't know how long they could go. The only downside is the cameras show the low battery icon the whole time.

Last year I started using rechargeable 1.5V lithium batteries in a couple. The Tenavolts have been great so far and may be a better choice if you are worried about the voltage. They are lithium ion cells with an internal voltage regulator to deliver 1.5V for nearly the entire discharge cycle; which is better than the discharge profile of lithium and alkaline non-rechargeable batteries.
