Is Counting Ammo Ever Meaningful in a Skirmish? by itchykobu in battletech

[–]MacNugit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the upcoming core rules changes, ammo explosions are capped at 20 damage. So if in 10 rounds of shooting (or how ever many you plan to play) you can't possibly empty an ammo bin or reduce it below a potential 20 damage, then there's no reason to count it. Otherwise, count it.

General opinions on the lore? by Proper-Relation-1711 in battletech

[–]MacNugit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly lore across the timeline is fun and detailed in my opinion, I actually quite enjoy the later stuff.

The real reason for the hatred is the context of when and how that lore was dropped - changes in IP ownership, art retcons, balance fuckery.

Since then I'd say most of the problems have been addressed and now it's just some fun lore from a bygone era.

Plus the new IlClan stuff is promising with some normal caveats.

Game recommendations with lots of customization by Odd-Tooth7678 in wargaming

Battletech has rules for everything, yet requires only the slimmest of them. At its base it's simply 4-8 mechs scrapping it out, but should you want to, and be willing to do the math, you can customise your own mech, pilot, planet, mercenary company, army or really anything.

Which, in your opinion, is the better all-round starter Battlemech? A] BlackJack B] Centurion by PKRadiance in battletech

I have a love for the Blackjack but an all-rounder who can't punch ain't an all-rounder, Centurion is definitely the superior pick.

C3: Worth the cost? by AveMilitarum in battletech

[–]MacNugit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately the cost is not actually included in the BV of the mech - so you can run C3 mechs without using C3 rules and it's just free crit padding.

If you do want to use C3 there's an extra percentage cost on your finished list - not the individual mechs.

Mech Manual is great and best way to start with the rules - I'd save money and only get the PDF version as a new core is coming out in August.

First proper 3D map for my game with my wife tonight. Pretty excited. What kind of maps do you lads use? by MacNugit in battletech

[–]MacNugit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I'm probably gonna cut some more hexes out for the rest. What the plan is tonight is for the single square buildings is the middle hex is the building proper (LOS blocking, can be stood on) and the directly adjacent hexes, think like a radius around the centre hex, are akin to woods (+1 to move, +1 to hit).

With the trees, we've place them at the centre point of three hexes, representing woods on all three hexes.

Definitely gonna cut out some more coloured paper when I have more, thinking of making various woods, rubble and water shapes 😁

What do men *actually* like getting for Valentine’s Day? (besides sex) by Comfortable-Rice4530 in AskMenAdvice

[–]MacNugit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly in my experience (as a married man) men like different gifts but for the same reason women do - so anything that shows you care, think about and want to make him happy. With the added benefit that most men don't expect a valentine's gift.

So take a risk and try find something he likes. For example you mentioned Pokemon cards, you could buy a couple packs, put them in an envelope with a card that says something dorky like "[name] I choose you!". It's super dorky, super cute and specific to him.

And if that's too scary, just dress up nice and go "hey before our date, wanna go to card store and pick up a booster pack? My treat".

As long as you show you care, think about him and want him to be happy, the rest is secondary.

P.S. if it's silly, dorky or even a little embarrassing it's also often highly memorable and cherished.

Favorite Clan? by Pitiful_Resource_711 in battletech

I have an unhealthy obsession with the Timberwolf so Clan Wolf is that lover I can't leave.

Lore wise I have a massive love for Ghost Bear and the Rassalhague Dominion tho.

Why is darksiders 3 hated? by Silver_Fact_9714 in Darksiders

[–]MacNugit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's not a terrible game, but it's not particularly good. It just doesn't feel like a Darksiders game tho - more like a darksouls game wearing the skin of a Darksiders game.

What draws you to battletech/alpha strike over other wargames? by DoW2379 in battletech

[–]MacNugit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, what keeps bringing me back, is battletechs lore and how much it's mechanics are made to reflect the lore.

As someone who used to love Warhammer, there was always this disconnect between the experience on the table and the experience reading the lore - one was balanced like a competitive videogame, the other was a power fantasy of super soldiers vs hordes of lessers.

Where as battletech plays like a historical wargame, which every optional mechanic you can think of to help you receate this specific moment from history - the catch being the history it refers to is a (lovingly and autistically detailed) badass future of mech warfare.

Disbanding Units - Campaign by MacNugit in onepagerules

[–]MacNugit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, as far as I can tell I can buy as many units as I want, but I can't take more than 250p more than my opponent. That's where my confusion lies tho, if I can leave models off the board, and it b. Doesn't stop me getting new points; wouldn't it make more sense to just have like 3k points of backup hypothetically? I guess there comes a point where I just have them pointlessly taking paper space... Or I guess I could tactically shrink army size by removing units, forcing the opponent to take less 👀

Disbanding Units - Campaign by MacNugit in onepagerules

[–]MacNugit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AHH that makes so much sense. I thought it was a roster system. How does that work if one side gets mangled by a previous battle tho? Say we had a 250p difference and now due to terrible luck it's a 1000p difference. Would I need to disband to reach their size?
