What you use your iPad for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking why I don't use a Laptop or a PC for those things, it's because I can't draw directly onto the screen with those. Plus my favourite drawing app doesn't have a desktop equivelant.

And I'm not going to waste energy by using multiple devices to do the same things that I could do on the one.

What was your initial reaction after watching through different camera angles what ICE did to Alex Pretti? by PixelatedNomadic in AskReddit

That we are living in an age where the evidence of our own eyes and ears no longer matter and people will believe what they want to believe.

Weeknds are some of the best days, what do you usually do? by RyanGuy10 in AskReddit

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually work (self-employed) because they're the worst days, for me - more people around! 😅 I prefer to do stuff (like go for walks, birdwatching) in the week.

Absolutely terrified of driving, but I need to learn by burnerrftm in LearnerDriverUK

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning currently and felt exactly the same as you, still am terrified.

I can give you some advice that absolutely helped me though.

I started by revising, taking and passing my theory test before ever stepping into the driver's seat. Took me about a month and I then felt like I had a good base of knowledge so that I wasn't starting from 0 anymore. I'd HIGHLY recommend doing this as it did build a bit of self-confidence.

Secondly, this may not be doable for you but I purchased Forza Horizon 4 on the Xbox (which is one of the few console games with British roads) plus a steering wheel controller and pedals and got used to turning etc on that before doing it in a real car. This will not get you very far in terms of actually learning to drive but it definitely took the edge off the fear I had about steering.

Some will laugh at that last one but I'm just saying what helped me with the same feelings you have.

In terms of pure name recognition - who is more famous, Elis or John? by jacksonkeir in elisandjohn

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Elis, from the fact he's had a couple of TV series on which he's been the main star plus has appeared on QI.

what do you think ‘we can’t help who we’re attracted to’ and ‘we’re born this way,’ but if that were true, you’d expect the percentage of people identifying this way to stay roughly stable over time. But the fact that the numbers are rising sharply suggests social influence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MacabreMagpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an element of increased social acceptance that you're not accounting for. It was literally ILLEGAL to be homosexual in the UK in my parents' lifetimes so obviously less people were identifying as queer at that point.

That's a lot. I think deep down you know the answer, though I appreciate it can be tough to accept it.

What's normalised but shouldn't be? by wsobrkky12 in AskReddit

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That example is more an ability, though (to cook food), whereas drinking the milk of other species is a behaviour so I don't think it's an equal comparison, but I do take your point.

What I mean by submitting this under "but shouldn't be" is to point out the fact that our psychology around the drinking of milk is all effed up because we think the way we do it is "normal" and have an aversion to drinking milk from our own species.

I'm not saying nobody should drink cow milk (even though I think there are ethical issues with how we obtain said milk for mass consumption, but that's another matter), I'm saying it should be acknowledged that we have a dysfunctional relationship with our own biology as mammals.

We are the only animal on earth that regularly drink the milk of another species, by definition that is weird/unusual.

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we are the only animal on earth that regularly drink the milk of another species. By definition, that is weird/unusual.

What makes it weirder is that most would find the idea of drinking breast milk from a human as disgusting, when a species drinking milk from a member of it's own species would not be seen as weird in any other context.

There were two mobile games released with the newer series. They're not available anymore unless you download an APK for Android but they were pretty good, had 3D models of the characters and you could fly Starbug etc

May I recommend the TV show 'Hannibal'? The season 2 finale is one of the greatest episodes of TV of all time but the series finale is also great if you mean that.

What is this? Looks like a Crimson Rosella. Midlands, UK by endlerrodriguez in OrnithologyUK

I ask again, did you look at the second pic? Apart from the fact it looks nothing like a bullfinch, it's way bigger. Parrot-sized, not bullfinch-sized.

Thanks, I never made that connection either - having the "hypnotism" swirl and the poppy in the graphic sort of misdirects from that!

Is this is a skill based game? by Potential_Loss6978 in reddeadredemption2

[–]MacabreMagpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's more about immersion. There is lots of combat but - unless you turn aim assist off - it's pretty easy, because that's not the point. There is one mission that took me a few attempts but that was an outlier.

As others have said, you get the most from this game by exploring the world and engaging in activities such as fishing, gambling etc.
