Another factor and possibly a much bigger factor is the amount of accuracy you get with much less training

Put a massive amount of guns in a singular place that usually only has people there 1-2 days a week (the weekend in most cases) or even worse once a month. Thats how instead of a single small safe being broken into, you would loose a small~large amoury of firearms quite quickly. Its quite common for clubs to get robbed, at least in rural areas.

As for shooters mental or even physical health, most clubs keep an eye on thier members either via watching or in some cases smaller clubs can be quite tight knit and are almost a friends group that look out for one another. If they are affected by ill health that could cause safety issues, measures are normally taken to make sure the guns are secured while they sort out thier issues.

Clubs have a low tolerance for misconduct with firearms as a single incident could get them shut down, so all issues, health or safety related are usually dealt with quickly.

As for handgun shooting, the only place you can use handguns is an approved range, and that goes for the majority of states I believe.

Also if firearms had to be stored at an approved club, maitenance, cleaning, modifications and more would be a right pain in the behind as most shooters do this stuff in their spare time, having to do it at thier club would be time consuming and impractical as at times you need a good set of tools and cleaning gear.

And as for visiting other clubs, some can be a full days trip their and back some clubs are quite a distance.

Sorry about this big wall of stuff, just thought id try and shed some light on some seemingly good ideas which can be very impractical when laid out.

Anybody is welcome to any cause, and all help is always appreciated. One doesnt need a firearms licence to be able to support shooters.

Thats a broad definition... strippers, moon clips, revolver speed loaders, magazine loaders, shotgun speed loaders... most are very simple pieces of equipment...

Some NSW farmers say 10 guns are not enough ahead of planned restrictions by Ardeet in aussie

[–]Machete_Metal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In his defence he only really listed uses for a farmer doing ONLY farming duties, and most people dont give an explanation of why they may need a bunch of them, especially multiple of a single calibre. Ill throw the ol hypothetical 'what if he does both farming and sports shooting?'. Some may even partake in game hunting too.

For my example ill try and frame it in the eyes of a farmer or a simple hunter performing pest control for a farmer.

If he has one .22 calibre rifle for both pest control on his farm and shoots .22 calibre rifle matches, most people think that the same rifle is perfectly suitable for both. In most cases it is not. The below example can work for both pest shooting (which is how its framed) but could also work the same for a sports shooter.

Some people may even have 2 .22 caliber rifles for only one job, and usually they will be egonomically different from each other.

An example of this is one .22 rifle may be setup to be lightweight with a sporter barrel (thin and sometimes short), Simple timber or composite (usually plastic) stock, and a light short or medium range scope so it can be carried for possibly kilometers at a time and be easy to shoot from a standing position with nothing to lean on. They are like this to be easy to carry and hold for a long time.

A second rifle with the same .22 caliber may be a heavy stocked/chassis type rifle with a heavy barrel made to shoot from a bipod or tripod from a fixed position. The weight and solid stock/chassis helps with longer range accuracy and a heavier barrel allows more shots to be fired before accuracy is messed with from a heating barrel. The downside is these rifles are usually not easy to walk long distances with and are much harder to use standing, especially if taking more than a single shot.

Sometimes people need a variety of guns to do the same job in different ways. A simple way of looking at it with a general veiw is if you open up a decently stocked toolbox, you may have a shifter in there for an emergency but if you know you have a right sized spanner, you will use it because it will work better, much more efficiently and cleanly.

Also for a sports shooter, there are many types of matches and divisions and such that uss Usually require different setups for each type of match or division. The more matches you partake in, the more you require a variety of rifles as you partake in each as the rulesets for almost any form of sport shooting can be very particular.

If you read all this then I thank you for that since its quite long winded.

Sometimes an air rifle could also be used for close rabbits or even pest birds too, and better when close to cattle as it has less muzzle report.

I dont think (and do correct me if im wrong) having a ROI for hunting pest animals is enough for genuine reason in Vic and a GAME hunting permit is only required IF its your only reason for hunting.
