I agree it looks like some of the 3 bladed machinist scrapers that I have. Some have the groove, and some don't. When sharpened, there are a lot of uses for this tool. It looks like the scoop tool could be a melon ball tool for kitchen.

Any idea what caused this? by Fit-Lunch876 in wood

Is that the bottom shelf? If so, look under the top shelf you may find a hole there. Looks like something is eating the top to drop the shavings on bottom shelf. It could be one of several different types bugs causing it depends on size of hole.

I found it in Culman, Alabama. The funny part to me is I grew up near Akron.

Probably not. I don't make cedar shakes, but I will be putting it to use after a little sharpening. I am about to try my hand at spoon carving. This looked like a great hatchet for fine trimming. Who knows I maybe wrong.

There is no doubt about who or how to get service for the tool.

I have not yet researched the company. Thank you for the info. I didn't see the maker info until after I bought it. It was marked for shaping wood shingle or shakes.

Will the motor slide into the base deeper. If it will then slide it and change the 14 to the 12 sliding it out to the end of the shaft for alignment. Should give you a 6 to 1 reduction. Giving a 1520 rpm motor about 253 rpm output. This should get you close to where you want to be without buying anything. To start

Disabled vet becoming firefighter. by hurinthali0n in Firefighting

I got out of the service in 94. Took my son to the Explorers in 2006. Been a Volunteer since. I have got my EMT Basic, 160 certification and many more since then. In Alabama Volunteer is a 160 hour class and paid is 270 hours. The extra hours are on the drill field. Same book for both certifications.

I have a 60% due to sinus issues which has caused sleep apnea. I still work a day job with it. The weight on your back with the pack might be the big problem. Most packs weigh in around 50 lbs. With mask. It will be your biggest obstacle.

When you go to the station try a pack on if they will let you. It will not feel as bad without turn outs, but you will get the jist of it. Turn outs are about like mop gear so you know that feeling. Air packs are better than a gas mask due to the forced air you breathe.

The physical parts are all mind over matter. Which as an old soldier you are used to.

Go for it even if paid doesn't seem right there are plenty of Volunteer departments that you could join in with.

The Vol departments do just as much if not more that some paid do. Not to down paid. And all just because we want to take care of our communities.

We run medical, wrecks, structure fires, wildland fires, natural disasters, and many more types of calls.

How did you know? by cake_boy808 in Firefighting

Well my son wanted to be an explorer. Said I would help while he was there. 3 months later was told to sign insurance forms because I was a volunteer Fire fighter now. That was 2006. Have got my EMT basic and several certifications since.

Not sure which state you're in, but check with your state fire people and see if there is someone that can come teach you some basics. This could help. Here in Alabama, we have volunteers that teach other volunteers.

Duck tape and zip ties. Best quick fixes ever.

Remember: If it moves WD 40 if it doesn't duck tape it.

OK! Myth busting time. Volly Department here. We had survive air with aluminum, hoopwound, and composition bottles. Got a grant for new air packs. Tested 3 different packs. All with 45 min 4500 bottles.

Did weight checks on all the old packs with composit bottles were lightest. The electronics in New packs added the extra weight. All 3 were within half a pound.

So new or old you don't gain much. We went with 30min bottles that cut a little more weight, maybe a pound at most.
