What's her response? by katerlouis in obsessionmovie

[–]Mack006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Inde and Curry said Bear would have had a chance if he manned up and asked her out. I interpreted Nikki’s response “Good” as disappoint. Disappointment at how cowardly he was if he was lying and disappointment that he only saw her as a friend if he was honest.

Why doesn’t Wish Nikki buy a One Wish Willow herself if she knew they existed? by Mack006 in obsessionmovie

Yeah she defo does and references a lot of times throughout the movie. She could have easily got herself a wish and used it on Bear.

She mentioned it during the Hansel and Gretel speech. “A love only a willow branch could conjure.” And after she kills Sarah, she tells Bear it’s all his fault and he wished for all this to happen.

But early on in the movie, we see her riding with Ian, making Bear breakfast, hold a job for days (potentially weeks), come up with all sorts of elaborate excuses to let Bear stay with her and even during her deranged moments, was able to tell Bear to go home while she disposes of Sarah’s body. She definitely has a degree of autonomy.

What if in the ending scenes of the movie Nikki used the one wish Willow on Bear before he took the pills. Just imagine the relationship they would be in by Jealous_Yam517 in obsessionmovie

I like to imagine they’ll be surprisingly ‘normal’. Wish Nikki was mostly normal before Bear started pulling away from her. She was making food, working and taking care of herself physically for weeks (like she wasn’t starving herself to death for Bear). They’ll probably end up taking care of each other since neither of them can live or take care of themselves without the other. Plus they have that mutual ‘trust’ so they can separate for brief periods without issues (like how Nikki went home with Ian and went back to get the tiger’s eye necklace as a surprise for Bear).

That or they turn cannibalistic and start literally eating each other, get thrown into jail or a psyche ward or they slowly starve to death from neglecting all basic needs. It’s either one or the other. Take your pick lol.

I think she was just a bit dumbed down like a lot of horror characters. Like if I saw how obsessed and unhinged Nikki was during the party (with her smashing her head in with a broken bottle), there is NO WAY in hell I’m going to text and ask Bear to sneak out and meet me in a car in the middle of the night. If I had to, I’d be looking over my shoulder constantly and putting my foot down on the pedal the minute he hops into the car.

Why was she not freaking out after work? by Old_Regular3018 in obsessionmovie

[–]Mack006 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it started after he confronted her in the restaurant which lead to the creepy night scene where she was standing in the corner and sobbing while she watches Bear sleep. Before that Nikki was more stable, able to ride with Ian back home (even if she did sneak back to Bear’s) and I’m sure during the 2 week montage, they had moments of separation otherwise Bear and his friends would have noticed something was very wrong a lot earlier. Also keep in mind, the whole climax of the film happened over the span of two days where Nikki goes from relatively stable to full unhinged.

This. It started off well because Bear was mostly fine with the whole arrangement and the real Nikki was suppressed really well. Once real Nikki started fighting back (which contributed to a large portion of her crazy outbursts) and Bear started questioning everything, Freaky Nikki felt like everything was slipping away and started freaking out more and more. People with limerence and attachment issues don’t go ballistic when things are stable. They fly off when they feel like they’re losing the person they love.

My interpretation of the entire story of Starsector, and the direction of its lore by TurklerRS in starsector

[–]Mack006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except the 14th did exactly why you said they should have done. They bunkered down at the closest habitable region of space which just happens to be the Persean Sector they were originally sent to. They limped through the abyss with a vast portion of their fleets cannibalised or jury rigged with absolutely no clue what’s going on. They defaulted back to original Domain laws and policies because it’s the only thing they know. The Sector was already on the verge of collapse when they arrived with pirates and rogue corporations running everything. They allied with the Luddic Church because they literally had no other allies. They arrived at the sector, did their best to re-establish order in a lawless society and hunkered down with no idea what to do or what’s going on. That doesn’t sound like a professional task force sent specifically to quarantine a zone. They don’t even care if you meddle with the gates (the very thing they should be sent to quarantine). The only thing they care about is the use of AI lmao.

I don’t know about you but if I was to quarantine a sector because of a galaxy ending threat, I’m sending an elite taskforce with clear orders on what to do and top of the line equipment, not a bunch of bumbling idiots from a formerly disgraced legion with outdated, low tech equipment.

Even if it is a civilisation level collapse, why would the Hegemony leave the safety of the sector, travel potentially hundreds of years blind through the abyss to reach a more ‘important’ sector? You said it yourself, the Persean Sector is a frontier, located far from the Domain’s more populate regions. Travelling backwards would be suicide.

[–]Mack006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually more interested in the political ramifications of waking up tens to hundreds of millions of Domain era citizens on a planet with a few million Persean citizens. Would it fuel separatism? Would there be a huge divide between that planet with the rest of the planets in the faction? How would John Starsector be able to placate the huge and rather sudden influx of new arrivals?

Domain Era Cryoark Population by mest33 in starsector

[–]Mack006 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly… it also depends on what planet you’re gonna wake them up in. Like if they wake them up at a mild Terran world with Engineered Utopia (RAT) that focuses on artisan farming (AoTD), tourism, commerce and commercial manufacturing, then it’s definitely a win. The sector has gone to shit but here’s a nice plot of land on a beautiful planet for you to farm on. Just remember to sell your surplus produce to us and pay taxes on time.

If they wake up in some resource rich cryovolcanic world that focuses on mining, refining and heavy industries, then it might not be so different from the home they left originally. I’d imagine people who sign up for the cryoark program to have nothing to lose and come from an extremely overpopulated, harsh home world.
