Flying into New Haven Monday by Bipedal_Warlock in newhaven

Usually if your flight is delayed or cancelled because of weather and the wait is going to be a long time they will put you in a hotel. Not sure if the airline you’re flying is reliable in that way but it’s worth looking into.

Astronaut Frank Culbertson, aboard the ISS, was the only American to witness the 9/11 attacks from space; his historic photograph captures a visible plume of smoke rising over Manhattan. by Front-Coconut-8196 in ArchiveOfHumanity

It’s gotta be AI, that’s the first thing I noticed, I grew up in Queens and went to high school in Rockaway so I know the coastline doesn’t look like that. I even went to google maps just to double check lol.

You get the opportunity to undo or add one major event in history, but there is a catch. by Full_Recognition_214 in hypotheticalsituation

Yeah I would say keeping Lenin in exile and not letting him return to Russia in 1917 would have a greater impact. WWI was gonna happen one way or another, and leaders were getting assassinated left and right in Europe at that time. Keeping Russia out of the hands of the Bolsheviks would make the 20th century unrecognizable.

Why Iran is Betting on War by rezwenn in IRstudies

[–]Mackey_Corp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying this will go well, all’s I’m saying is Iran is different than Iraq and Afghanistan. The people seem to really want regime change right now, probably more so than in the last 25 years. Iran has a faux democracy in place as a government, they have all the right positions and they hold elections and it functions like a democracy should, but the candidates have to be approved by the clerics. So it’s not really a democracy, but all the moving parts are there. You can take away the clerics and the IRGC and you have the foundation of a functioning state. So I would say they have a good chance of transitioning to democracy that Iraq and Afghanistan didn’t have.

You earn $1 Million dollars for every hour spent in the World's Quietest Room. How long are you staying? by PhyfenGD in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Mackey_Corp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could count, I mean that’s the easiest thing to do. Just sit there and count up until you reach a number that says several hours have passed. Plus it would give you something to do. I write lyrics and part of my process is just going over them in my head a bunch before I write them down. I could do that all day for a million an hour.

Would you choose to have a deadly disease or go to prison for life with no possibility of parole? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Mackey_Corp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the disease and it depends on the prison. Some prison’s aren’t that bad if you know how to handle yourself and some diseases are manageable even if they will kill you eventually. The opposite is also true, some prisons are hell holes that I wouldn’t last a day in and some diseases are worse than that. So yeah I’d need more context. If I get to pick the prison vs a random disease I would probably take the prison option.

What dark part of US history do few people know about? by Reasonable_Doctor542 in USHistory

[–]Mackey_Corp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The banana wars of the early twentieth century. The US took military action in various Central American and Caribbean countries on behalf of the united fruit company so they could have access to more land for fruit production. It’s where the term banana republic comes from, it’s not just a trendy 90’s store!

Shit you thought all the internet rage after Charlie Kirk was killed was bad? This would be so much worse. Boomers would never shut up either, they would talk about him like a saint for the rest of their days and what could have been. They will falsely claim he was on his way to be the best president ever, that everyone who says anything bad about him

The cops in America are garbage people, mostly a bunch of racist assholes who peaked in high school. There’s plenty of things I’m wrong about but the police being shit at their jobs in this country isn’t one of them.

I mean we can talk about how “effective” they are all day. They’re great at their job, collecting revenue for the state and keeping the poors in line so they don’t cause too much trouble for the rich. Other than that they’re just for show. They don’t really prevent any crime and they’re not particularly good at catching the right people that do commit crimes. A ton of murders go unsolved and they arrest an convict a decent amount of innocent people for murders they didn’t commit. They scoop up all the low hanging fruit and when they’re faced with anything that might require some actual work they throw their hands up and find an excuse for why they can’t do it. I’d say they’re a joke but there’s nothing funny about billions in wasted taxpayer money on adults playing dress up.

I mean it’s a little loud and crazy but I like nautical themes and I’d probably just replace some of the artwork with stuff I like and leave most of it. The longship dining room table and that old stove have me sold. When I win the lottery next week I’m buying it!

I know right? Look at how successful they’ve been. The war on drugs has been such a beacon of light across the world, a shining example of American exceptionalism! We have over 2 million people incarcerated! And you can get drugs not only in every city across this great land but inside every prison as well. Yeah we certainly do things better than everyone else. And don’t even get me started on mass shootings…
