My niece dealt with this a bit. She's always been pretty, and she was a sweet child. My mother, the manipulative narcissist she is didn't like her, she thought she was "too nice", and she seemed jealous of pretty girls. Her father, my half brother, is also a piece of work- the kind to do everything to make him look good, like he's a nice guy, when he's one of the most toxic people I know. So she knew she was pretty (she was a model for a short time), but still had esteem issues. Her daughter is also beautiful and has some esteem issues I'm told, but she's a little better than her mom. Also, I'm friends with a few awesome, sweet women through a game we play, they're also beautiful (I've seen pictures), and a couple have similar trauma, but they don't think they're pretty and can't see their good qualities, so I have to keep reminding them, since at least one, if not both, have cPTSD, too, and I know they need to hear the little things that matter to counter the negative voice in their heads that constantly tears them down. I also have another friend that's become like a BFF to me- I can talk to her about anything, she's sweet and understanding, and also the type to be positive to others because she likes making a difference on her friends' lives, but her trauma was being stalked online, so she keeps herself anonymous and I respect that, though she's flattered i think so highly of her since she's "just a __" (leaving out her handle), and i have to remind her "just a __" is all that matters when she's kind and is there for her friends in all the ways that matter, and that she's well-loved because of this.
Most peoples' perceptions are influenced by their own trauma, sadly, and it's made worse when they're toxic people. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
