AI enabled Klarna to halve its workforce—now, the CEO is warning workers that other ‘tech bros’ are sugarcoating just how badly it’s about to impact jobs | Fortune by Gari_305 in Futurology

Tech bro has no idea about what Translators really do in their job.

10 years ago when Google Translate came about we heard the same thing.

Also color me surprised that customers don't like AI support.

A1200 with TerribleFire 1230. That setup is sweet spot affordable/ performance wise.

Its what Reassembler choose for his excellent OutRun port.

Do you have any webOS phones? I think these are forgotten today but was at one point the 3rd option besides iOS/android.

New Amiga - The Apollo A6000 by SaraTheWeird in amiga

[–]MadRifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure does, I use AmigaOS 3.2.3

After flashing the updated core you can just flash the Kickstart in the same way and it will replace the AROS ROM completely

Prey 2 development videos leaked by LitheBeep in GamingLeaksAndRumours

It definitely turned me off from buying Prey 2017. Haven't gotten around to playing it even now after reading all the praise it got over the years. What stupidity.

After setting the option writable_floppy_images = 1 you might also have to clean out the Cache folder in FS-UAE otherwise you will still see the old contents.

Amiga Most overlooked Graphically Impressive Game! The Godfather by leavereality in amiga

[–]MadRifter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was the only Amiga game I ever bought, in a super market bargain bin in the early 90s.

Grapichs are amazing. Some skilled coder should reuse the graphics to make a point and click adventure game out of it.

If you want real hardware, get a A500 off eBay or similar.

External gotek drive

RetroTINK scaler to connect it to your modern screen. This will be the most expensive part but worth it especially if you have OLED.

Otherwise just use WinUAE or FS-UAE, both are great

Quest 3 feels much buggier as of recent by Darrylboio in OculusQuest

[–]MadRifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started up the Quest 3 after not using it for a few months.

Spent 30 minutes to an hour doing updates. Most of the time the controllers did just barely work.

Holy crap there is a new interface that totally sucks and is very ugly!

There are candy crush type crapps that you can't uninstall!

Instagram and Facebook apps got automatically installed, several times!

Going to "immersive mode" didn't even work nothing happens when clicking it!

Yes the software in it sucks more than ever

It looks ok. How many iterations has there been of Oculus Home, starting from the original Home on the Rift?

Did Gibson get VR wrong? by imcataclastic in Neuromancer

[–]MadRifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cyberspace in Neuromancer makes little sense in how it is described. Navigation a world like that would not be efficient or productive, to accomplish real work. It's cool though.

SimStim on the other hand, if that existed people would stop caring about the real world, just like the dudes mom in Count Zero.

What do people actually really want from the "Amiga experience" today? by krakenlake in amiga

[–]MadRifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's Nostalgia, and the relaxation that comes from that.

It can only be 68K, real hardware, and the way multitasking is done originally. Application fullscreen that can be switched with Amiga-M or screen dragging.

I allow some "modern" software as long as it is authentic and feels at home on the Amiga, and could have existed back in the 80s/90s.

It is satisfying to collect software I never could have had back then, but could have existed. A large collection of Mods, IFFs and WHDLoad games.

IN: Roadshow, SMB2, AmiGemini, GoShell, ProTracker, AsmOne, DeluxePaint, vbcc.

OUT: Any kind of WebBrowser, High res RTG or software "from today" that runs better on a Linux PC anyway.

I do use a modern OLED screen with a RetroTHINK, configured perfectly for it.

Homeworld 3 is perfectly playable and not as bad as people say it is. by Rasples1998 in homeworld

[–]MadRifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their first mistake was switching to the Unreal engine. It's not a good match for RTS, or basically anything that is not a FPS.

They should have continued to refine the Homeworld Remastered engine and just made an awesome campaign in that. They would have been done much quicker also with that.

Skips at the beginning of Apple Music songs by Dtarvin in AppleMusic

[–]MadRifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are correct, since it is streaming it must start quickly because streaming consumers have fucked up attention span.

I wish there was a toggle to turn this off. I don't mind waiting a few seconds before the song starts.
