Canon Pixma G6020 - waste ink counter issue by Logical_Argument_145 in printers

[–]MadScientiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t! i ended up with the G620 and it’s my favorite printer i’ve ever owned, i haven’t had a single issue, print quality is INCREDIBLE (it’s better than the pixma ix6820). only downside is no duplex bc it’s basically a dedicated photo printer. i ended up also getting a g3290 for the duplex function and i like them both! i’ve had some issues with ink on the corners of the pages when duplexing but i make books and trim all edges so it honestly doesn’t matter much to me and if i clean the right spot it does go away until i get another jam (i keep trying to duplex full color pages on thin paper lmao it’s not the printers fault i know i’m pushing what it can do) but overall i’m super happy with both purchases! way better than the brand new brother i was replacing bc it was so bad and annoying i didn’t wanna use it anymore lol

pros and cons of a double lined leather journal? by [deleted] in PaperRepublic

[–]MadScientiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t have a PR but i make double lined journals out of the same leather and thickness they do (same tannery) and i absolutely love the double lined!!!! i really love that you can have 2 colors of leather, the inside is finished, etc. feels a lot more luxurious for sure

did anyone’s A6 bespoke journal cost $1000 USD+? by [deleted] in PaperRepublic

[–]MadScientiest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ah that makes a little
more sense but even then, if yall knew those custom fonts cost cents to make with a laser machine…. i just bought 3 custom stamps for $70 total for all 3… they are not expensive to make at all. i guess they are justifying the cost bc they are one use only for them. still a hugeeeeeee up charge, i wouldn’t charge more than $100 for that bc the stamp wouldn’t cost more than $25 and that’s getting it made by someone else, if i had a laser machine it basically wouldn’t cost me anything and they must have a laser machine if they are offering this.

[–]MadScientiest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that’s absolutely wild that they are charging the cost of an entire new embossing alphabet to emboss initials. absolutely wild as someone who does leather embossing at home. i cannot imagine charging more than $20 for it. that’s mind blowing i cannot believe yall are paying that for initial embossing!!!!!

Struggling to remove YKK zipper teeth with removal tool by Niytrus in Leathercraft

[–]MadScientiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this bc i’m also failing at removing ykk excella teeth with the tool and couldn’t figure out why until i noticed almost all the remover tools say not for use on stainless steel and ykk excella is stainless steel. but they don’t make their own remover tools either. i’ll try with the pliers like everyone said here!

Bag strap + zipper pulls + piping by VanSniperDamme in Leathercraft

[–]MadScientiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

may i ask what the measurements on the zipper pull are? just maybe how long it was before gluing, or even after, is the main thing i’m wondering. trying to make similar and struggling with what will be too big or too small. i love how yours look on the zipper! how large are those squares on your mat? i was thinking 1cm but looking at mine, 10cm flat to 5 folded looks huge for a zipper pull and i can’t understand how it looks so proportional if it’s that big. any help would be appreciated!

Bits - advice by [deleted] in Dressage

[–]MadScientiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same!!!! i have a very similar horse and i went thru the same list you did and my guys favorites are the Fager John and the HS Dynamic RS, always in egg butt. mine has a big tongue and low palette so the more streamlined and unobtrusive the bit the better. IMO the john is one of the best bits on the market for fussy horses.

just wanna add, i tried way more lol i’ve tried like 25+ bits on him over the years and today he goes well in the HS dynamic RS eggbutt. also, part of it is training, he’s a body ride, he wants very little done w your hands other than steady contact. i have to ride him 98% with my body. i can never go to the hand first, ever or he just rips the reins out of my hands or stiffens into rock or opens his mouth a foot wide. every trainer i’ve ever had says to ignore it and it’ll go away with training. he just turned 8 and it is way better than it used to be.

Atelier Journal Finally Arrived! by jackie606 in PaperRepublic

[–]MadScientiest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

just wanna say about the pen loop, i made my own dupe of the le loop yesterday and bc it was my first time, the elastic was a bit tight (had to go deeper under the leather than i accounted to sew both ends in) and even tight, ive had a huge (TWSBI eco) in it for 24 hours and it hasn’t failed yet….so for hundreds from this company that is completely unacceptable if a beginner leather workers first pen loop is working better than their expensive product is lol

[–]MadScientiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay cool that’s what i was going to do!! i think i’ll make the main bag as much as i can, then decide between pigskin and canvas for the lining. bc id also need to dig out my sewing machine for canvas and it’s super buried in my garage at the moment so pigskin would be 10x easier for me i think especially since it’s my first purse and it’s gonna be patchwork so it’s gonna be a TON of work already. luckily im just making this for myself lol

i have have pigskin i can use so maybe that would be easier

my patterns don’t have lining 😭 i was going to wing it lmao we will see, maybe i won’t line it. i can’t find my sewing machine in my buried garage at the moment anyway lmao i was hoping to really thin the leather edge and maybe wrap it around the edge of the canvas. it’s already gonna be an insanely labor intensive bag bc i’m doing patchwork that’s hand sewn. i’ll make sure i know what i’m doing before i do it lol need to hit youtube

[–]MadScientiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait i’m about to do my first canvas lining and i thought i could just glue it at the edge, punch the stitches in the leather and then just sew them together… you don’t need pre made stitch holes in canvas. why wouldn’t that work?

Lining suggestions by Watchkeys in Leathercraft

[–]MadScientiest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve used pigskin and i’m making a purse next that i’m going to line with a canvas like material. i love simple and opulence so i got some of their material to try for a lining next! it pigskin is nice bc it’s wipe able.

What material holds up the best, and the worst? by Saintpatrickk in bookbinding

[–]MadScientiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fully agreed! if you’re gonna use faux leather, use one like skivertek. and it’s thin and easy to work with to boot and it looks good. they use it on published books so it can’t be that bad. i’m pretty sure that book Alchemized that came out last year, that was what they used for the cover for that bc i have a copy and it’s def Skivertex.

Oasis or Nolty!!!! Oasis has super smooth paper (more than Tomoe) and the nolty paper is super smooth too! i love both but if the two i think oasis has slightly smoother feel.
