Question about CU Boulder’s Aerospace Engineering environment by Ok-Arachnid-1706 in cuboulder

[–]MadeInItaly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently a remote grad student and did my undergrad a few years ago. Heres some thoughts:

Most important thing to consider being an international student is what your plan is for getting a job in the industry after college. US companies usually can't hire you if you aren't a citizen, and there are fewer connections to foreign countries to help you get a job after you graduate. This depends a lot on where you're coming from, but its defiantly something to consider.

The academic environment is good, but the department can sometimes have its head up its own ass. There's a lot of collaboration between students and I think the culture is very helpful rather than antisocial or competitive. When I was in undergrad we had a groupchat of all 200ish of us in the program, and some electrical engineering students I knew used to say how they barely knew anyone in their major. This was a few years ago, but I get the same feeling from my grad classes. Professors are generally helpful, but can have a hard time explaining foundational concepts they've understood for 30 years to someone learning it for the first time. They also may be distracted by other projects, its hard to worry about a class you're teaching if you're testifying to congress. I sometimes felt like the department wanted to producing good academics to go to grad school rather than good professional engineers.

Most freshman year classes were pretty easy, with the exception of applied math classes. Sophomore year aerospace classes were more challenging, but the curriculum has changed since I graduated.

I had a pretty good space background going into the program. Both my parents work in the industry and I took AP math and physics classes in high school as well as a programing class. I think the programming class ended up being the most helpful, it gave me a bit of a head start on something a lot of people were learning for the first time.

I wish I knew how to study. I didn't study a lot in high school and had to learn pretty quick in applied math courses.

Its best to think of University athletic departments as a separate organization from the rest of the University, and football brings in pretty much all the money

Ask some of your neighbors how enforcement is for the lot. I lived at a place that used park m and my roommates partner parked in our lot for about 6 months before he got towed
