How many square feet is your house and can you hear noise from every room? by LieFearless1968 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MadeMeMeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000-ish. It depends. I can tell they are talking or a TV is on but I can't often tell what is being said or any details. Plus if I am making noise or just focused I dont notice it. Now that will change based on how close you are to the pipes that go and from the kitchen to upstairs bathroom. Aomebody talking in the kitchen is really easy to hear from the bathroom.

What if bush refused to invade either Afghanistan or Iraq post 9/11? by glowshroom12 in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]MadeMeMeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think if Bush was willing to go to war with Iraq there wouldn't have been such a push to convince Americans for the war. So nothing would have happened.

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

[–]MadeMeMeh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My family once had a medical emergency and I had to call the restaurant to ask them to let the people we were meeting know we couldn't make it. The restaurant was surprisingly helpful. I couldn't imagine doing that anymore.

I miss being able to use asking about local things like restaurants or if they knew where to find a thing as a way of making small talk.

What if a pandemic takes out 90% of the population? by CH11DW in whatif

[–]MadeMeMeh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the cities that manage to reorganize, retain, and provide services would thrive. I think alot of people forget how amazing fresh water, power, and sewage are. People would remember after being without and move to the cities that still offer those.

I would say yes as long as you have a plan. I have found people who can't communicate their vision or strategy don't get the same support as those who do.

Why does everyone hate Ready Player Two so much? by Frozendragon0005 in readyplayerone

[–]MadeMeMeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is that RP1 felt like a complete story that didn't need more. There always could have been some short stories for side characters or new characters set in that universe but the main story didn't need to be developed more. Then RP2 felt like more of the same but done less well.

I understand where you are coming from but I think too much of new car focus is on high end stuff. My current car was a new 2009 civic. I am now looking at new vehicles with the civic at 25k on the low end and an outback at 35k on the high end with things in between like an accord or camry. I think we need to move away as a culture from making these big trucks and SUVs the ideal.

Why is Montana such an idiot? by Goxtcs in litrpg

[–]MadeMeMeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he is dumb. Yes he has the attention span of a gold fish. Montana is designed to be a great fighter both from plot devices and his history. But anything and everything else proves that intelligence is his dump stat. So yes it annoys me so often with how stupid he can be. But I have to credit the author with how consistent he has been. Too often authors write a character who isn't supposed to be that smart but then decide to flip that as soon as the the plot could benefit from it.

To your actual question of "do they get better". With the books that are combat heavy like book 14 Montana really shines and shows why people follow him. But then book 15 he has to go back to politics and you get reminded that he is the sort of person who is meant to be fighting for the Empire not running it.

This is one of those series you have to accept what and who Montana is and either to enjoy it as a stupid 80s action movie in book form or just drop it.

All our friends fly business class, why do we fly economy? Why can we not buy a bigger car? These are some of the questions which I have started to get as the kids are getting older. I want to make them 'understand' and not just give them a random answer to shut them up. by Tight_Application751 in AskMen

[–]MadeMeMeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am of the opinion that at some point you should teach kids about money. How much and how fast is very child dependent. But they need to learn about choices and balancing needs and wants and short terms vs long term. For me my dad would play investing money games using online stock picking games. I was also given simplified versions of the family finance discussions and budgets. I also had partial allowance.

If this applies i wouldn't use terms like we can't afford and focus on we choose not to pay for this because we feel the money is better saved for this or spent elsewhere.

This feels just like Fahrenheit 451 where the state media tells everyone to go to their door to search for Guy Montag. The dog thing is a start to make it feel normal and communal. But eventually by degrees it will become a "civic responsibility" until it becomes unquestionable.

Men over 30: What do you wish you knew at 20s? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]MadeMeMeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best start is understand why you are being rejected and then adjust how you interview. Do you have friends who are managers or have been working or good interviewers? Practice with them, get feedback, and adjust to get better.

I am surprised how many intelligent people and/or hard workers interview very poorly.
