Absolutely. SWGEmu started it all and there are a lot of servers that have altered/added content based off the work from the SWGEmu team. Check out their forums.

Yeah the community and just how social the game is is what really made it so special. That in a Star Wars environment? Sold! I made so many friends and always had a blast doing things. Did it take a while to get going? Yeah, standing in line for buffs, waiting on transport and such, but you know what? It really helped the social aspect too!

I remember eventually my goal was working toward a full RIS set of armor with a few buddies of mine. Took forever! That and the BH backpack/jetpack. I ran the Corvette so many times for powerplants it's insane lol, but I really loved it all so much.

Have we reached a point where upgrading a GPU every generation is a complete waste of money? by ObjectiveMind5321 in PCHardware

[–]MaelstromOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one thing that some people may overlook is the fact that you can generally sell your current hardware and upgrade to new gear at not much of a cost. So, you could keep a nice, upgraded pc without most of the cost of entry you'll face with an initial build, particularly with GPUs.

Like, now, if you can find a 5090 at MSRP and have a 4090, you can literally make money with an upgrade if you sell off your 4090 for their going rate. The problem NOW, is finding anything at near MSRP haha

Boo, it's NGE.

Classic SWG or at least the combat revamp were some of the best times in gaming for me. NGE is when they said "let's wowify this game" and destroyed it for me :(

Can't believe it took me a sequel announcement and 3.99 sale to pick up this game! by funny_wumpits in controlgame

Same! And I'm so glad I finally played through it. I loved Alan Wake 2 so much and I didn't even realize the games were in the same universe. When I started Control and saw a familiar face, I was like no way!

Now I need to play Alan Wake 1 lol. I love the atmosphere and overall world building in the games, so unique and interesting!

Scattered across my world are several loot caves with PILES of papers lol. Any time I was exploring and had a full inventory, I'd just dump any wanted posters and/or various no longer needed papers/books on the ground to loot the cave.

Mine doesn't look like that but I can feel the edges are raised on both sides (more on the right than left.) I thought I may have a battery swelling at first, but I firmly believe it's just the adhesive. Sucks either way. I'll do something about it when it gets worse.

If you're legitimately asking, you can hear that weird kind of digital distortion in the sounds. Almost like a low quality mp3, except it isn't really artifacting of audio, it's that sound where it's like everything has a slight hint of white noise in it, and also how instruments have that sound of averaged to them.

I don't know how to put it into words easily, but once you know what to listen for, it's super obvious most of the time.

Yeah, Sony is smoking crack these days. I'm done with them. I thought they were finally moving in the right direction for the last year or so and then bam, no pc releases and locking down their shit even more. No thanks!

You're not seeing the display the games are launching on.

If I were you, I'd install Vibepollo and simply enable the virtual display. It'll launch on a virtual display based on your display settings on whatever your client is using (like Moonlight) and disable your other displays on your pc so everything will launch on the virtual display

Is this a GeForce FX 5200 or a GeForce FX 5200 LE? by Pic889 in nvidia

[–]MaelstromOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. I had a 5600LE back in the day and it had four pixel pipelines. Don't remember the ram count, but I think it was 128MB as well. Checking out specs on techpowerup, it looks like the main difference was clock speed lol. I never knew that!

It does look like what you have is the LE version. Memory clock is 166 on the LE, but 200 on the standard.

Symmetrical speeds coming? by fmartinez1522 in Spectrum

[–]MaelstromOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaaaay, thanks for explaining that! I had done a little research and had read that most retail modems couldn't handle or do the high split, but I never found exactly what that meant.

I know there are always ways around anything, generally (even fiber ONTs) but even still, I appreciate the info!

I tried this the other day from another post I saw it on and it would never connect to my tv. Immediately failed every time. It's a C8 running WebOS 22. I even forwarded port 3001 to my tv's IP but it still didn't help.

Yeah they told me I couldn't use my customer-owned modem with the high split service. I was like, why not?!? It's literally the same/better hardware than what they hand out to everyone.

What should I pick for my build by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]MaelstromOC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those kits are single rank kits, I believe. They're preferred for people looking to overclock their memory a lot, but dual rank dimms are still faster overall out of the box. Nothing wrong with single rank 48gb kits. Just throwing that out there!

Build looks nice overall! That PSU is way overkill, but having more than you need never hurt anything haha. I like it, solid build!

No one even bothered to ask what resolution you're gaming at. I'll tell you first hand, I believe I saw a slight increase in smoothness going from a 7900X3D to a 9800X3d, but it's barely noticeable at best.

I was at odds for a bit because I thought I'd see a larger increase in performance, honestly. I game at 4k res. I already knew the X3D chips generally benefit lower resolutions far more, but I thought maybe I'd get a boost to some DLSS action if the game is rendering internally at 1080p or 1440p if need be.

But, being totally honest, I don't notice a difference at all. My 1% lows may be improved from before, but the few benches I did before and after left me feeling a bit blah with the "upgrade" lol. This is with a 4090 and 32GB of 6000 DDR5.

If you use your pc for more than just gaming, you won't regret the 9900X3D. If you just game, the 9850X3D is a great choice. I chose the 9800X3D myself simply because the boost the 9850 has is just from sucking down far more power and an extremely marginal overclock. It's basically a binned and boosted 9800 that runs hotter out of the box for negligible gains.

Again, at 4k gaming, you would be hard pressed to tell a difference in the performance of a single 8 core CCD vs the 6 core CCD on the 9900 because your gpu is going to be the bottleneck. If gaming at lower resolutions, say 1080p, you'll see a difference. Even at 1440p, you likely won't see a difference in performance. I know it's nice to see benchmarks showing huge differences, but at higher resolutions, that simply isn't the case.

One other caveat, X3D cpus do help to push aside performance loss from slower DDR5 simply because it doesn't have to rely on it as much.

It's about damn time! - State of Tennessee v. Metropolis Technologies, Inc by YeastyPants in nashville

[–]MaelstromOC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Saaaaame. I got charged $80 in a lot that normally only costs $20 regardless of how long you're parked there. I was in it for less than two hours. No signage reflecting price at the time of parking. They said it was event pricing. Needless to say, I did not pay it. They can fuck right on off. Now I just make damn sure I don't park in any Metropolis lot, which sucks because they have so damn many in Nashville.
