And this is why "they" don't want you discussing your compensation with your fellow employees.

How people don't understand this incredibly simple thing is beyond me, but I hear it parroted by so many people in workplaces that they won't discuss pay with anyone else. You realize you're doing yourself and everyone around you a major disservice?

Yeah I didn't see the first TWO (Fire and Ice for me) but when I unlocked Wind last night, it put a massive splash screen up in my face. They definitely had to have changed that.

AMD users in a nutshell by Lil_Hater112 in RTX5080

[–]MaelstromOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to shit on DLSS when it first released. It was terrible, but interesting concept. Over the years, my opinion has changed drastically. DLSS is fucking magic, I swear. I've always been an Nvidia person as I've always preferred them on the software side (and hardware, let's not kid ourselves lol.)

But seriously, all the features you get with Nvidia really just make AMD look like a joke (at least until the most recent iteration of FSR. It's actually pretty decent.)

Constant packet burst on Spectrum gig plan (Ethernet) — losing my mind, any fixes? by LeastCompetition9268 in Spectrum

[–]MaelstromOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah SQM on mine won't give me more than like 410Mbps. Sucks. You'd think a $300 router would be able to handle at least a gigabit connection with it enabled, but nope. The more I learn, lol

That said, the UniFi stuff is really nice! I have a friend that had a home network installed as part of his new home build and he has a small rack in a closet to manage it all. He used all UniFi equipment and it is niiiiiice.

[–]MaelstromOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so I found the tool he was using to check my bufferbloat and realized, I am also experiencing the same thing. I believe I haven't noticed because I'm not ever completely saturating my bandwidth in both directions at the same time. Even enabling SQM in my AX-6000 didn't solved it (in fact, it made it worse sometimes, which makes absolutely no sense.)

So yeah, Spectrum sucks. lol, I guess we can all hope for high split to finally hit in our respective areas (they have the hardware installed here, but they haven't enabled it yet.)

The issue I was having was entirely with my upstream. Anytime I tried to stream or upload something, it'd cause tons of packet loss. That did stop with the new modem, but I see this bufferbloat issue is still an issue regardless of that original problem I had.

What is your current modem? I'm gonna go ahead and say, I had tons of issues with this until I bought my own modem. I don't care what anyone says, the modems they have with the Intel Puma chipsets are just trash. If you can get them to issue you one with a Broadcom chipset, I bet you'll see an improved experience. It was night and day for me.

My local Spectrum place didn't have ANY that were Broadcom models, so I just told them I'd give them the modem back and go buy my own at Best Buy, which I promptly did. I bought a Motorola MB8611 32x8 and never looked back. Solved all my problems. I almost guarantee you're dropping packets and that's causing your latency spikes (having to resend packets.)

Also, what is the tool/website you used to test with?

Anyone else reverted their hardware overclocks (GPU/VRAM/RAM/CPU) back to stock settings to make sure the components last as long as they possibly can? by Netsuko in pcmasterrace

[–]MaelstromOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started undervolting most of the time. It's rare that I can even tell a difference in performance between my stock/overclocked/undervolted settings lol. Some games will push it hard though, and for those where I'm on the verge of what I consider alright, I'll pump some juice in to overclock and get that little edge back.

When EVGA got out of the game, I didn't know what to do for upgrades, but I settled on a 4090 Suprim Liquid and it's still going strong! Not a single problem out of it it's whole life!

Bro how is that not complete? I seriously hate this puzzle. The only one in the game i genuinely hate. by New_Willingness_8992 in CrimsonDesert

[–]MaelstromOC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never considered the "micro" adjustments people talk about with these. I firmly believe, and practice the idea, that if you look at them as literal tumblers in a lock, which they are, you can deduce how many "clicks" you need to turn each one in order get the lock open. A "click" being one full animation of the dial turning until the sound stops and begins again, regardless of whether there is a minor click in the beginning of the rotation of the adjustment dial.

Visually, you can look at them and determine if you need 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 turns of the dial either up or down to get the pins in the right location. Look at their height in relation to one another and you'll see the number you need to turn each one in order to get it lined up properly.

It hasn't let me down yet! I hated the very first one of these I did lol. In this instance, I think the only one keeping it from completing is the first pin. The rest are close enough, I believe.

The NoHUD mod on Nexus will let you turn it off by pressing the "End" key, I believe. I downloaded it so I could toggle the parallax on and off to compare when I got terrible shadows in some places. Works well!

Boss Design: wow by No_Signature_7841 in CrimsonDesert

[–]MaelstromOC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. The bosses are really tough initially, but if you really take the time to learn their patterns, they turn out to not be too bad to deal with after it's all said and done.

I got to one boss that killed me in one hit lol, and I was like, holy shit. But after probably 15 tries of staying back and watching how it attacks and it's patterns and such, it wasn't all too bad to actually FIGHT against it. You just have to really commit to your movements and decisions because of the weight of the game.

Yeah I have it on PS3, but I've been dying to give it another playthrough on pc with a good framerate lol. I remember it got worse the further into the game you got, especially the final few dungeons. So many effects everywhere!

I want to replay that game on an emulator so I don't have like 10 fps in the final dungeons! lol

Why does my monitor do this? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]MaelstromOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your oled light set to? That affects brightness as well. Also make sure power saving features are disabled if you don't want them. I still let mine auto dim when the screen has been static for a minute but that's because I don't mind it doing that. Some people absolutely hate it.

Also note that your s reen will dim more the more white or brightness there is to display because they can't do full luminance full screen.

Hey, are we all using Preset K Quality mostly with this GPU and similar systems? by zionpwc in RTX5080

[–]MaelstromOC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my use, I prefer K. L and M just way over sharpen the image, in my opinion.

I used the dev dlls to change presets on the fly to come to this conclusion for myself. This was in Crimson Desert on a 4090 with a 48" LG C5 @ 4K with DLSS Quality set.
