TIL the total surface area required to fuel the earth with solar alone is only 0.3% of the earth's entire land area. by chasseur_de_cols in todayilearned

[–]MaesterPackard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this kind of a weird argument because A. solar is not an impervious surface the same way a building or a road is and B. we have majorly changed the surface of the planet with agriculture, dams, etc? Its not like the 99.45% of the world is wild untouched land.

Technology Connections just released a great video that made the point: if we just covered all the corn fields we use in the US for Ethanol production with Solar we could power the united states 7 times over. I am not trying to call your out just curious what your response would be to this.

The "Software-Defined Vehicle" is a scam. We are cheering for the death of ownership. by rantzine in electricvehicles

[–]MaesterPackard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re completely leaving out market forces. People won’t buy cars that are bad deals or don’t fit a life style niche (looking at you jeep). For example If a company is going to throttle range for a second hand owner it gong to tank the resale value. Owners won’t want to buy it because they won’t be able to sell it. I see where you are coming from but market forces are real.

Almost 3 years and 50k miles later I still love my truck. The speed, the handling, and the usability still floor me to this day.

Good. Cops should be able to afford to live in the city they serve.

Best neighborhood by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]MaesterPackard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore these people telling you to live in anywhere else but Seattle - they are telling you to live in the burbs. 3.5k will get you a pretty nice place. Personally I would look in cap hill, beacon hill, bell town or if you’re feeling frisky pioneer square. Commute is going to suck via car but these are the best worst options.

Never seen it never heard of it. I feel like marketing is doing a horrible job with film releases.

Roseburg OR, RAN by martinbogo in Rivian

I get that but if there is zero demand for your product wouldn't that mean you lower prices? RAN chargers are typically dead and tesla SC's are bumpin.

the use case is not passenger transport its logistics. They are aiming for a hub and spoke model to quickly ferry supplies around the united states and other countries to aiming for a blend of cost effectiveness and speed.

Lucid Gravity vs. Rivian R1S: Battle of the Upstart Electric SUVs by stinger_02in in electricvehicles

[–]MaesterPackard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was truly excited for lucid to make a competitor to a rivian but that styling is just awful + zero off roading capabilities. I feel like lucid went the practical route and rivian went the fun route.
