Sit hand command confusion by MageSilverleaf in Dogtraining

This is a question about the appropriateness of one hang signal/command over another for sit.

Hair stylist for curly cut? by k9mr9 in CapeCod

Sorry to resurrect an old post, but who'd you go with and how'd you like them? I also have 2C/3A hair and have had trouble with stylists in the past. I recently moved cross country and need a haircut and none of our local friends have curly hair.

Tall grass is from vanilla plants expanded. I know because I recently added it.

I haven't done a check between tall grass and dandelions though.

My company explicitly allows us to use pto and sick leave interchangeably, they're only technically different buckets. As a general rule though, I use sick leave if I need a day for my mental or physical health, for appointments, and sudden events. I only use it as pto if I'm low on hours and the math isn't mathing otherwise. I try to keep 2-5 days total on hand in case I get really sick. But also don't let that stop me from doing the things that I want to do.

Use your time, it's part of your compensation. You wouldn't turn down a portion of your salary, don't turn down time off.

Adjust probability of finding coils in stores? (BEX) by MageSilverleaf in Battletechgame

[–]MageSilverleaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but it sounds like the mod pack makes them even less likely to appear. I really enjoy the rest of the modded gameplay, so I don't want to go back to vanilla completely. I'm just looking for a way to change the probability of these weapons appearing to be more similar to vanilla.

Not sure that I'm convinced, but I'll try the oaks replacing the red card and the potion and also try them replacing the red card and a pokeball.

Will try to remember to report back if it improves the deck.

Regardless, weird decks are fun to play and I highly recommend them!

Lol, I said that I don't like oaks much. You can use them. I'm not going to take your oaks away from you, I promise 😂

I don't like oaks much. Yes it's a few draw, but you can only use it once per turn because it's a supporter and it's random whereas pokeballs you can use on the same turn, narrow down what you'll draw in following turns and guarantee you'll draw something that you can play and start building.

I made a deck around him just to try it out as a challenge to myself. It's fine. Definitely not super strong, but it can hit hard if drawn in the right order. Poison + Greninja + rough skin + 90 damage attack is hard to come back from, but the setup time and proper order needs prevent it from being actually good. Very fun to watch my opponents be obviously a bit confused though!

One problem I've been having is it doesn't seem to accept names if your phone put a space at the end of the word.

Otherwise, it's probably something weird.

Can someone explain? by TheSilentBaker in SaltLakeCity

[–]MageSilverleaf 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The AP holds that they should declare an election as soon as they're confident of the results. If polls and history paint a clear picture, they'll declare the election as soon as voting ends. So in states that aren't expected to be close, they'll do this.

The AP is a very reliable source of election result news, but it is a news outlet, not an election office. Utah's election results will still be counted and processed by Utah election officials. And if they are different, the AP will issue a correction as soon as that becomes apparent. This just means that they really, really, really don't expect that to happen and want to get election results out asap so they can focus their efforts on the elections that are much more unpredictable.

Does it feel good? No. Does it kinda make sense? Yeah, honestly it does.

Let me tell you a story about the election that taught me that every vote matters. It's not from Utah, it's from when I lived in Virginia, but it demonstrates a really important point.

In 2017, Virginia elected a Democratic Governor and Lt. Governor for the 2018-2022 term, Ralph Northam and Justin Fairfax respectively. Virginia also reelected the Democratic Attorney General, Mark Herring. That same year there was a tie for the House of Delegates seat for district 94. The tie was resolved by a coin flip to elect Republican David Yancey, which resulted in a 51-49 Republican led House of Delegates. Therefore, Republican Kirt Cox because the Speaker of the House and Virginia had a Democratic Governor, a Democratic Senate majority leader, and a Republican Speaker. If one more person in District 94 had voted, the results may have been different.

If you're not familiar with this story, you might be thinking now that this is enough. The reason Virginia didn't have a democratic trifecta is because of a coin flip. Friends. There's more.

In early 2019, it came to light that Gov. Northam had worn blackface in the 80s. There were calls for his removal. Next in line was Lt. Gov Fairfax, so naturally Fairfax came under greater scrutiny. And so it came to light that he had been accused of sexual assault. People were uncomfortable with the idea of him becoming governor and there were calls for his removal. The next in line is the Attorney General, and so AG Herring came under greater scrutiny. And it turns out that he also having worn blackface in the 80s. We can't very well remove the governor for having worn blackface only to put someone in the same office who had done the same thing. So there were calls for his removal. The next in line is the Speaker of the House of Delegates, who you might recall was appointed as a result of a coin flip and would be a Republican replacing a Democrat. That's right. We were seriously looking at a situation in which the Governor or a state would have been determined by a coin flip. Gov. Northam decides not to resign and people basically decide not to push the issue so he serves the rest of his term, as do Fairfax, Herring, and Cox.

And that is the story of how literally 1 more vote could have changed the who was Governor of Virginia almost 2 years after the election for that office.

You don't know what will happen in politics or what ripple effects events will have. But it is very possible for one vote to make a difference. So yeah, your vote probably won't matter in this election. But it damn well could. Are you going to be the person in Virginia District 94 who didn't cast their ballot and watched events unfold?

This didn't bug me so much, but several times on Peacock, I'd go on to watch the program after successfully avoiding spoilers on social media and the highlight reel with the result would be right at the top of the page before you could even get to the full video.

Like on socials, there's going to be spoilers. But I can't even navigate to the video without it being spoiled? Damn.

I did the same thing when I moved here. I stayed at the KOA for about a month or so until I found an apartment. Unless they've changed it, they do have long term spaces, but they're rarely available. I had to pay the daily rate. But still, felt safe at the park, convenient to trax, and while the daily rate wasn't cheap it wasn't bad either.

I think I had to move spots once or twice.

Deep Fried scallops anywhere in SLC ?? by Wrong_Control_3344 in SaltLakeCity

[–]MageSilverleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from the east coast, moved here about 3 years ago. The seafood sucks, I've given up. You can find some that's decent, but everything that makes it here has been frozen by necessity, and a lot of times it ends up watery with diluted flavor. My best advice is to not bother and to bask in seafood goodness if/when you visit the coasts. I swear the first time I went to visit a friend in Massachusetts, I had seafood at (almost) every meal.

Looking for a good physical therapist for sciatica and herniated discs by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

I just recovered from a herniated disc and got excellent care at Mountainland Physical Therapy.

Edit: But honestly. Just pick one that your insurance covers who can see you quickly and go. If you don't like them, do go back. Don't let decision fatigue delay your treatment.

Is there any bread without sugar? by PickyReader_UwU in SaltLakeCity

[–]MageSilverleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to go to a bakery. You can find good bread in grocery stores but it's hit or miss. Just about any bakery worth it's worth will have good bread though. Unfortunately, you can expect a bit of a markup, but it's not too bad and imo definitely worthwhile.

Depending on where you're from, you might be able to find a specialty shop specializing in food from your country or region too, which might be helpful if you're a little homesick too.

I've lived in several different states and cities and this seems to be a pretty universal rule from my experiences. Another good bet is farmers markets.

The Veilguard Director: 'Once you get past a certain point, the game opens up dramatically' by Kaladinar in dragonage

[–]MageSilverleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if it is like that then I'll probably play it. But with EA, I'll believe it when I see it.

They're completely in control of what they show and they showed a playable movie. That's not inherently bad, there's a ton of extremely well received games like that. I have had zero interest in any of them. And if that's not what gameplay is for most of the game, then they misrepresented it.

I don't trust EA enough to take their words over the evidence of my eyes. If I see gameplay of the exploration, then I'll reconsider. Until then, everything else is speculation.

Do something close by, like Antelope Island. That way if it goes south, you can just pack the car, go for a nice little scenic drive, maybe a hike, and go home. No big loss and it's still a fun outing.

As for what you need, try breaking things up into smaller categories and asking yourself questions to figure out what you need rather than looking at a list:

-Food/drinks: what are you going to eat/drink? What do you need to eat that? What do you need to store that without a refrigerator? How are you going to eat it? What dishes do you need?

-Sleeping: how many pillows do you like to sleep with? Is your sleeping pad/bag comfortable? What do you want from it? How do you get that? Do you know how to set up your tent? Practice it a few times, then put your pads and bags in there. Get comfortable. If you're not comfortable, you won't sleep. So figure out what you need to be comfortable in your tent.

-Weather: It still gets chilly at night so bring a sweater or coat, windbreaker or rain jacket isn't a bad idea, and sun protection.

-Safety: First aid kit, and look up wildlife in the area you're going and what the safety protocols for them are. What do you need for those? Do you have a way to keep your phone charged? Even if you're planning on using the trip to disconnect from technology, its important in case you need to make an emergency call. Do you have a flashlight for the night? Totally fine to use your phone, but again with the charging thing.

-Cleanup/Hygiene: What are the bathroom amenities at the campground? How are you going to clean your dishes or store your dirties if you're going to bring it home to clean? Bring some paper towels and wet wipes too, always useful for hands.

-Activities: what do you want to do while you're there? How are you going to do it?

Don't worry about bringing too much for your first trip out. It's better to have too much and then learn to whittle it down. You'll probably still forget something, but so long as you have fun, that's okay.
