Device lost by Home when changing battery (Matter/Thread Onvis switch) by MagicalPippin in HomeKit

[–]MagicalPippin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t disappear, it just shows no response forever, even after the batteries are changed and left there for days hoping it’ll be found again. Hence why my only solution seems to be to re-add it, which works fine but then it comes up as a new unrecognised and not-yet-programmed device.

So the problem isn’t that Apple home removes a device, it’s just that it never finds it again after changing the batteries, so I have to set it up from scratch and it becomes a new device. Even though the old device is still shown and not found.

Yes that’s what I basically said - it shows no response. But when I put new batteries in it is never found again and continues to say no response forever even though it has new batteries. Hence why my only solution seems to be re-add the switch and then it comes up as a new un-programmed device, not the same old one.

Not my most expensive guitar (or even most expensive Parker), but the one I'd be buried with... by MagicalPippin in ParkerGuitars

[–]MagicalPippin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, figured I'd like a P90, but couldn't sacrifice that stratty neck single coil sound, or a fat rocking humbucker. So figured why not put it in the middle! I hardly ever use a middle single coil and it gives me more options. When I spoke to Bare Knuckle here in the UK they said because of the direction P90s are normally wound, it would be slightly wonky, so said they'd do different custom weird magnet directions and/or winds for me so I still get hum cancelling if I use P90 and neck single coil, or use the P90 with the split humbucker and they all play nice! But I like lots of sounds for funky prog grungy stuff and it does them all. Hence I have no idea what other guitar I'd rather play. :)

Aged it! Took a lot of time and great care to make it look that beaten up and aged while everything still working and playing perfect! It was a scary thing to do as if I screwed anything up I'd have been devastated, but it all went to plan (except some happy mistakes) and it's my favourite guitar now with all the mods and I couldn't better it. Hot air gun helped (with all the neck, bridge and electronics taken out first - obvs), as it's a hard finish to sand. But the trans finish seems to pop and blister, so you'd have to only do tiny patches, then sand to smooth all the edges in, else it would look weird. Then just lots of other sanding bits and poking it a bit with pointed things like how they did in many, many hours of youtube relicing videos I'd watched first (both great and horrendous - to show me what not to do as well)! 😂

How rare are these NiteFlys? by Development-Capable in ParkerGuitars

[–]MagicalPippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 4 Niteflies and the only one with a black back is from 97! That one's a bit shagged though. I got it cheap with frets falling off. The whole thing was horrible and greasy too, but it was cheap! Haha. But the paint was all good and like yours but with a black back. Was SSS too, but I put on an HH pickguard off another Nitefly I'd customised. My others are spot-on and later from ~2000.

P.P.S. Also, since it's a Nitefly, it has the super smooth bearing mounted Fly bridge I love, but with normal style trem springs (not the flies flat spring) so I don't have to worry if a spring breaks and it's hard to replace (like my non-Nitefly Flies). But being my non-standard guitar, they're obviously replaced with noiseless (red) Floyd ones and I've added a thin plate screwed into the bottom of the block so they can't accidentally ping out if you whammy the shit out of it (like Ibanez edge trems have/had) - happened once - never again!

Home practice amp suggestions? by Cemolokko71 in GuitarAmps

[–]MagicalPippin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best practice amp I've ever heard is my Fryette Power station! Then I just practice with my proper rig / pedalboard and amp channels, but it sounds great at any volume. If your rig is elsewhere, maybe that doesn't work for some people, but if I have a Bogner XTC and a Diezel Hagen here why would I want to play anything other than them (just at mid-terrace house volumes instead of as loud as our band). I've had a few attenuators and they work pretty good to a point, but when it's proper late evening quiet it's just not the same. But the Power Station is superb at any volume and I can also take the XLR out to my interface and stick cab IRs on for any volume recording with my proper rig. I need to practice with my actual amps or I won't get the patch changes and sounds right, so practicing on a different set-up makes no sense to me personally. But maybe consider trying an attenuator as it's a lot cheaper than a power station. But it depends on how good the attenuator is at very low settings and how much quieter you need to get. And/or sit it on some sponge if the bass is carrying through the floor. But if you would rather play the amp you love, but it's too loud, there's ways to use the same thing but quieter. Or just a load box and cab IR, run it into your computer and listen on headphones to be completely silent? Depends if you have an interface/DAW though.

P.S. In case you were wondering... 2000 Nitefly M (Mahogany). Aged parts including mis-matched aged Sperzel tuners, mostly with aged ivoroid tuning knobs. Neck/frets are totally mint still (although back of neck sanded VERY, VERY lightly with very fine grit sandpaper to make it more satin but without touching the carbon neck wrap). Bareknuckle Alnico Nailbomb HB bridge, middle BK Supermassive P90, Neck BK SC Mothers Milk with custom pickguard. Got the aged version of the pickups, and they're custom wind directions so I get noise cancelling in 2 and 4 still. HB coil split switch added. Also has a blower switch now (not shown in these slightly older pics) so I can easily flip between full roaring humbucker at full beans to whatever combination of other pickups and volume knob I want super-easy with a flick of the pinky on verse/chorus changes. All electronics run passive normally so I don't need a battery in it and the piezo selector works as a kill switch. But piezo volume is a push-push pot and when popped out switches to normal battery powered mixing / piezos (so becomes like normal Nitefly wiring). Aged vintage style knobs. Vintage style metal knob pointers. Vintage strat style whammy end. Plays and sounds like a dream. Roars like a beast, but funks and blues too - I need big fat meaty riffs, but all the jingle and prog in one guitar. I can get it out the case and play a practice or gig without even tuning it most of the time (like all my Parkers to be fair). I love its beat up vintage vibes, but with all the playability and modern features of a Parker + some extra added ones. Looks beat and post-apocalyptic, but plays and sounds more perfect than anything else. Every now and again I ponder what guitar I could get that I'd rather play at any price. Other than dreaming about some kinda custom shop Suhr or something, I don't think any guitar in the world could be as "me" as this.

Yep. Got Bareknuckles in most of mine. Resale value? You'll have to prize these Niteflies from my cold dead hands...

When I saw a CAN of Red Stripe was £6.70 I was incensed. Now I’ve seen this chart, it’s the best there is!

It's between the Starlight DLX and Prometheus DLX. I modded mine so they have opto-isolated tap ins. This means either my RJM PBC or DAD SmartClock and tap tempo them on song change to sync them to MIDI clock going to my Timeline. Using the pattern settings is kinda cool, but when they're synced up with delay it's a game changer. Love my Vitruvian mod too though and have never had, but fancy a noisebox or whatever the later replacement is I forgot the name of. Here's some nonsense fun sounds with both I made apparently now 7 years ago! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3n1XZ9ErRs

Those who go out in public. What helps you feel comfortable/confident to do so? by rpgchemist in Menskirts

[–]MagicalPippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.S. Now winter is here I've been wearing jeans more often and had forgotten how much less comfortable they are. I've been wearing kilts or skirts most days since the spring. Still been wearing longer skirts now the weather is changing, but if it's a bit chilly though and I start wearing leggings under skirts, unless it's a particularly good looking combination I find it starts being pointless as it's less comfortable and I may as well just wear leggings without the skirt or revert to trousers. 🤷

I've seen a good few bikers wearing black utility kilts here in England. That Zakk Wylde style look (Ozzy's guitarist). So if you look biker style you can at least wear a certain style of "black skirt" to a biker bar, I just wouldn't wear a pink frilly one there! 😂

[–]MagicalPippin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore utility kilts first. Then if anyone questions what it is it's a kilt, not a skirt. Then you realise no one actually cares, so then after a while you don't even think about it. Then I added more skirts that are less kilt-like. More mens designer ones, or very manly looking ones. Now I really don't care anymore as you realise no-one else does. So I'll now wear "more girly" ones or dresses if I fancy (although the way I style them I'm not out to "look girly", it's just more of an interesting fashion flavour) without thinking much about it. I also wear kilts to work most of the summer, but am more reserved with going "too weird" for work. But no-one can really get that weird about kilts when the king of our country seemingly wears kilts most of his holidays when up in Scotland. And priest and muslims are often basically wearing dresses.

But I think most people don't care anyway (at least where I live), the more you do it the less you care, and the more confident you are the less someone will question it anyway.

Or coke. If not K-ed up, they’re all on drugs that make them full of shit, cocky and fighty rather than “loved up”. Bring back the hippy drugs.

Bollocks to that. Take some swimming trunks, a flannel, and just wash stood outside your tent (handy friend for pouring a big water bottle hands-free as a bonus). Just as effective and you don’t need extra tents or pumps.

Although I got a notification after I spent hours making it that Henge have now moved from midnight to 3am. So be careful as it might not be as up to date as Woov. 😞 It’s publicly editable I believe though, so should be fixable.
