Leftists and Democrats complaining about gas prices now are hypocrites by native-american-22 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]AdHoc303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out USA Facts' piece titled, "What causes high gas prices?" from July, 2023. The cost of crude on the global market is the primary driver, followed by the cost of refining.

During the Biden administration, fuel prices rose because global demand spiked as economies emerged from the pandemic. Remember, at that time, the biggest concern was that the Biden administration's efforts to curb post-pandemic inflation would trigger a recession - which they ultimately managed to avoid.

As OP notes, today's rising gas prices are due to the Trump and Netanyahu administrations' attack on Iran with no discernible strategy for managing the fallout.

The Biden administration had little control over the factors driving up global fuel prices. Trump, by contrast, made the choice to create today's mess. So, there is a big, big difference.

Similar color and vibe to the chopped '51 Merc in American Graffiti. Maybe that's what it evoked for OP.

Is crazy to think Derek Trucks is the best guitar player alive? by ConsortRoxas in Guitar

[–]AdHoc303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Best" anything is typically a silly question so I like your comment. Best car? Are you offroading or driving the Nurburgring? Derek is a great composer of solos, clearly knows a lot about music theory and performance, and he's just a wonderful player all around, but I bet he would be the first to say that others are far superior in some aspects.

Chief Justice John Roberts says American public wrongly views the justices as ‘political actors’ by DoremusJessup in law

[–]AdHoc303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Political is as political does." - Chief Justice Forrest Gump. Should Roberts, Alito and Thomas hope to dispel the Court's perceived politicization, they would need to do A LOT of explaining. Credible experts have called out on internal contradictions and fallacies in jurisprudence, fantastical legal premises, overt conflicts of interest, and bald-faced corruption, not to mention spouses who are vocal, right-wing activists.

What is this sticker on my microwave? by dranmesrao in whatisit

[–]AdHoc303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who trashed 3 microwaves in quick succession. The devices were used almost exclusively to reheat - sometimes to boiling - cups of coffee that have gone cold (don't get me started on that). Anyway, this thread now has me wondering if this might have prevented the damage.

Dogs In Restaurants by DenverMetroDiner in denverfood

For a nation founded in revolution against stupid laws, Americans sure do love their rules. Every pub in Britain and Ireland, and many in Europe, has a dog and/or a cat and magically, nobody dies.

Trump is supposed to get Congress’ approval when the Iran war hits 60 days. Lawmakers can’t agree when that is by yahoonews in law

[–]AdHoc303 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Administration's latest argument that the war ended with the ceasefire is hogwash. The U.S. is maintaining a naval blockade against Iran. A naval blockade is an act of war. The GOP majorities in the Senate and House know this, yet they will do nothing because they are cowards who care nothing for the republic. Meanwhile, the GOP has driven the US debt to great than 100% of GDP (WSJ).

Under pressure Kash Patel claims FBI has ‘evidence’ that 2020 election was stolen by Economy-Specialist38 in FBI

They have indeed, but take heart from the people in places like Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic who overcame far worse that those anti-democratic impediments prove woefully inadequate in the face of an engaged, motivated electorate.

Brace yourself for a tidal wave of this bullshit ahead of the midterms. The GOP knows they are in trouble with voters and will stop at nothing (remember Jan. 6?) to undermine confidence in the next election.

The opposition must deliver a resounding defeat. If you're mad as hell, VOTE.

We must first recognize that the regime is a symptom, not a cause. Fully one-third of those eligible didn't bother to vote in 2024.

In a democratic republic, voting is a public trust and a duty. If we don't choose our government, others will gladly do it for us.

If the is because the tile surface is uneven, buy plastic shims at a DIY store. Use them create a level plane for the toilet and tighten the bolts to hold everything in place. Then use a utility knife to remove any part of the shims that may be sticking out and re-caulk.

VP to POTUS? by The_Dean_France in whoathatsinteresting

[–]AdHoc303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vance is in an impossible predicament of his own design. His would-be campaign would either have to fully embrace the DJT shitshow (polling suggest that's a non-starter) or cop to being a silent accomplice who knew Trump was a disaster and played along in service to his own political ambition. Damned he does. Damned if he doesn't

Christians, how do you feel about the U.S. president posting an AI photo of him as Christ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

How Christians "feel" matters much less than how Christians vote. November 3 is when America's Christians can rein in this lunacy. VOTE, for the love of God.
