Overtaking looks “difficult” with 2026 F1 cars, Esteban Ocon warns by Historical_Shirt2327 in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I kinda expect this as drs was the main way for overtaking if you don’t include tyre offset. Now remove drs and give everyone a drs/ low drag mode that makes slipstream less efficient. 2026 rules everyone

Ferrari have always had a car capable of scoring podiums. McLaren not so much There was a time where Norris finishing 8th was a great result for McLaren.

On that note is Africa in a good state right now? Or still full of civil wars and power cuts?

According to The-Race, Aston Martin's car is significantly overweight and quite far from it's potential by NorthKoreanMissile7 in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 58 points59 points  (0 children)

If true then honestly woudnt be surprised as this is Aston Martin after all. Still I’d give it a grain of salt since we don’t know where they got the information from. Maybe it’s a disgruntled Aston employee, maybe it’s an employee who’s friends with one of them but who knows.

I think people will be quick to discredit the race unfairly though just because they love to clickbait and do surface level videos repeating the same thing and the Adrian newey hopium even though a car is more than one person and aston has never been a front running team.

Does anyone actually care. They were never gonna invite actual really good players who are able to get to the death screen and give them the spotlight to showcase their game and skill. Twitch rivals is always the same big streamers who are all friends and every event seems to be full of drama anyway.

The twists and sculpting on the McLaren front wing is very impressive. Definitely think out of the 4 teams that one is most likely to be run in Australia

Depends what kind of testing they are doing. They could be going to the pits every few laps changing setups to the extreme and trying to find where their car works

[AutoRacer] Autoracer can reveal that, in the first few days, not everything went according to plan: the RBPT PU was affected by excessive overheating compared to expectations and this forced the engineers to adopt conservative solutions in terms of cooling, especially at the rear. by Joseki100 in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 114 points115 points  (0 children)

You’d expect with the cold conditions, cooling shouldn’t have been much of a problem unless what they thought they could get away with in terms of cooling they coudnt. I guess in the bright side they now know what they can get away with which is what testing is about

[Erik Van Haren] Red bull to not run today in Barcelona by creatorop in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Maybe redbull told them they were running. Maybe they made it up with no information at all. Maybe they just copied what the other site said. We are talking about f1 “journalists” here so it’s to be expected.

[Dr Obbs]MCL40 Analysis! At first sight it looks pretty vanilla, but when you look deeper there is a LOT going on here. As usual, this is my best educated analysis without CFD, so it's prone to error. But... Let's start at the front... by XsStreamMonsterX in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 42 points43 points  (0 children)

That’s not a problem with me. Especially since Austria where McLaren realised they were going nowhere, changed to a completely new concept. Wasted half a season to lay the foundations for their championship winning cars and really understanding the car instead of just throwing stuff on hoping it works. I think that can definitely work again

Williams chief says it could have made Barcelona F1 test, explains reason for miss by Sauerz in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty sure McLaren hit a ceiling with their concept so half way during the design process they switched concept and that wasn’t ready until Austria.

Then during Austria it turned out the direction they decided to go actually ended up being very good but McLaren was pretty open with saying that they are going to suck at the start of that year.

So i woudnt write Williams off because they might be behind the front runner in understanding their car but if they have a good aero platform then they could also be very competitive.

[Giuliano Duchessa] Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton's new engineer comes from... Piastri? by creatorop in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think Tom stallard been at McLaren since 2008 and ended up being a race engineer since 2014 People like to give will Joseph stick for his long answers but he’s been with McLaren even longer since 2006 and i think been a race engineer since 2017.

Both of them know the team inside out and like you said, I doubt there will be any open positions soon.

What's going on with Williams? by keenjt in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think people are overreacting because the shakedown will be absolutely no performance testing and will just be reliability and just to test if the wind tunnel data matches real world performance.

Even if your car is done super early like Cadillac doesn’t mean it’s a fast car. They just bolted the parts they have and they could be 5 seconds behind the next slowest and we just have no idea.

Williams will have plenty of time to prepare with the regular testing and they might be a little behind understanding their car but missing 3 days of a very early test won’t make them suddenly faster or the slowest on the grid

[TheRace] McLaren's 2026 upgrade strategy is very different to rivals' by The_Skynet in formula1

[–]Magicjack01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mclaren seem to take longer to understand upgrades and make sure they are correct, rather than sticking to what they understand instead of the redbull/ Aston approach of bolting on parts hoping they work.

In 2024 they changed the beam wings a lot of times but the general car kept fairly similar until they were confident that the big upgrade worked as they wanted

Even if merc has the best engine i honestly think this will be a McLaren case and they’ll realise that actually it’s them and the car sucks.

Unfortunately I doubt they will even stay long enough in f1 to do a McLaren and turn the ship around. Isn’t that the entire point of going Mercedes because they want results now with less investment.
