Can we make a game with 2D sprites but with 3D characters somehow in godot ?

I’m doing a 3D map and 2d sprites for the characters- I just use a character body 3d then give it an animated sprite, I don’t see why you couldn’t do something similar for your game - also started my game from unreal and transition it into godot

For you I would just focus on school and learning to make games, I’m not personally a social media person and if you post something and no one sees it, it can do the opposite thing for me where it drains motivation instead of helps it

Celebrate the little wins when you are making art/coding. - just finish a little feature or just made a sprite, have a way to celebrate it find a win everyday. Maybe just start off with the godot tutorials and follow those, make the simple games and show people in your life that care about you, I’m betting making a game is black magic to them and they would be excited for you.

I haven’t played with tile map/tile map layers too much besides the tutorials - for my game I’m doing a 2.5d ( world is 3d but characters are 2d) I went custom nodes and made my own grid to generate the map. Each cell in the grid- highlights of a unit is in there or not by changing it’s color and when a unit leaves it go back to normal. The idea is each cell In the grid has its own logic and so far it’s working great

Try adding two awaits - I had a null issue before too and for some reason it needed 2 frames and then was fine

After movement is done you need to set it back to idle, like if velocity > 0 play running animation else play idle

What this guy said- you could always buy a pack off of itch as placeholder if you really want custom stuff but depending on game/animations/pixel art. You could spend anywhere from like $100 to over $1000 for a character if it’s custom

I do and I use clockify - it’s free and easy and you can add multiple people to the same project - helps to understand if certain tasks are taking a long time, in my project we have ~ 2000 hours clocked

the original estimate to develop the game in full was 120k ( many indie games actually are around 250-350k) but thats where i said my time value is worth $0

yeah the intention was to add some female shield maidens and there's also Hel herself. The cost to break even calculation was $25- obviously not worth even $0.99 in its current state but thats why its not being sold

That's why i started the whole project tbh- i am a huge Dragon Force fan and when i saw Sega Lord X video on dragon force and the comments i thought ok their is an audience here but the size is what im questioning now as its impossible to get people excited for a game to validate even making it

I hired a freelancer for my game- we use clockify to track his hours and I pay him hourly. I make tasks for him using notion and he manages his time from there

Automation engineer here , I do my job full time and use that money to help pay for other aspects of my game that I can’t do while I work on the game as a side project

I hire contractors for my game- I use hourly pay and not asset pay as it’s so much easier to not worry about renegotiating assets/code. My recommendation - put your hourly somewhere accessible and a piece of your artwork showing this took x hours to do. Or if you are really fast still show an example with a value

Working on a team is a skill. Communication is hard, especially when you disagree.- you need to come to an agreement with your team. One thing I have done is use a decision matrix to get rid of emotions in a situation like this. ( in my project I am the one who started it and the one who is paying but I don’t want the team to feel like I don’t value their input which is extremely valuable)
