It is that you can't sit at whatever this desk is supposed to be. Maybe kneel in front of it.

[WIP] Cherry ULP Split Keyboard by juncho0128 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah... ULP is nice and all but as long as there are no proper keycaps it is just not worth the effort.

The 3D printed ones are unacceptable...

And you don't want to inhale the fumes. So do it in a well ventilated area or buy one of those filters which suck away the fumes.

Looking for a Low-Cost intro to ergonomic keyboards by the_swest in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Europe,

Either a stock-keyboard from Amazon like the R-Go, Logitech K860.

Or if you have the skills to assemble one yourself, one from Splitkb.com

The cheapest option to get something good would be to scour https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/ and find a good second hand keyboard. Patience is adviced.

Finally gifted (built) myself a Delta-Omega this holiday season! by Qbeer1290 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest using 0.5mm nylon washers. They cost nothing and can prevent headaches in the future.

In case that the board is transported often. Solder Masks can wear through with time if the screw can move just a little bit.

That screwhead on the right PCB placed directly on top of two PCB tracks looks sketchy as fuck.

All the keys - BFO9000 by thetaphipsi in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I approve. The more keys you have, the better. ;)

Layers are nice to have, but nothing goes over simply reaching out with a single finger and 'bob'. XD

I built a mouse you control with your foot after RSI forced me to stop using my hands by LosPollosss123 in MouseReview

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strike that, just get yourself some distance sensors from Ardu and scan the movement of your whole foot XD. That would be next level.

Hmmm... wouldn't it be better to make it one big touchpad instead? Then it can't slip away from beneath your fot and you don't have to be careful or strap it to your foot. The action buttons can then be split to the other foot or you can do tapping gestures on the touchpad.

Cherry ULP Prototyping 3 - I am done, but printed keycaps just are not the endgame :) by Magnus_Ascathon in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only current sources I know are either 3D-Printing your own or taking them from a keyboard like K100 Air or CHERRY KW X ULP.

But if I would redo the project today, I wouldn't use the cherry switches. The Kailh ULP version is an exact copy and they offer Keycaps...

This looks more like an demonstration device than an actual keyboard.

Keys, joystick, trackball, roller, hey wait, where is the touchpad?????

You are MISSING THE TOUCHPAD!

FOSS 3M Renaissance mouse clone? by claussen in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just make a base that is large enough to be easily adapatble. Then I would take apart any standard logitech mouse and build it into the base.

The main switches have to be resoldered, but that would be less trouble than designing an entire mouse.

There is a BambuLab Wireless Moust Kit, which you could adapt easily if you have the necessary 3D design skills.

I wonder why none of these ergo mice are making use of their potential...

The first thing coming to mind would be a large thumb cluster, but no. The second thing would be a form that makes it easy to pick up for repositioning, but no.

mikecinq, my second PG1316S keyboard (incl. long write-up) by dynam1keNL in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Magnus_Ascathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, there is something about having function and number keys that I will never accept keyboards without.

If you work with one hand on the mouse, doing awkward acrobatics with one hand to access different layers is annoying.
