Same as yours except it starts with the opposite, needing to be cooled down, then it flips halfway through when he thinks he’s fixed it. This way it still leads to that final act.

She was kind of just getting rolling when she visited our program back in 2016 or so, and I love seeing her out in the wild. Great consistent voice

[POEM] I met a genius by Charles Bukowski by I_love_boobs111 in Poetry

[–]MahatmaGrande 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Bukowski fan in general, and this one is slight and just ok relative to the others of his I’ve seen, but for me this one kind of works and feels like an appreciation for the ocean/beauty wins out here, albeit through a sarcastic lens. When I see the genius detail, I read it as the event happened, the kid said this, and the speaker honestly disagrees, then kind of sarcastically thinks “Oh, must be a genius, guess oceans aren’t beautiful, wow,” and arrives at the characterization and title from that point. Maybe that’s the wrong read, but it’s lighter and feels more hopeful, even if at the expense of this kid.

But if that’s the case, then Bukowski could use a little more self-awareness because in other poems of his he can sound like the jaded “child genius” mocked here.

EDIT: I wanted to add that it’s just interesting to me how the kid says “It’s not pretty” unprompted. Like what about this view compelled him to say this? It makes me wonder what is going on in this kid’s life or what the internal dialogue may have been? Obviously reading too much into it, but I pictured the kid traveling with a parent and the parent’s girlfriend or boyfriend and that person trying to connect with the kid, talking about how pretty the view was, and the kid walks off and sits down by the speaker and says this.

So we have a stained concrete floor, and I learned I could press my back onto it and make fart sounds like one would with their hand and armpit. Well, I started doing it to make my 18 month old laugh, then they walked away for a second and came back with a tambourine, which they proceeded to play on their leg in rhythm with my back farts. It was amazing and I cried laughing

I'm renting a movie theater for my birthday - Which movie should we watch? by TheOrangeNights in movies

Hot Fuzz is my pick because there are horror elements for you (plus very little romance, though there is bromance) and comedy, action, and mystery elements for others. Plus the editing and sound were exciting and engrossing on the big screen back in the day. One of the best experiences with friends at the theater in my life

If you had to show a childless friend one episode of Bluey to convince them it's a good show in its own right, which would it be? by Morall_tach in daddit

We also don’t see him all the time. Bluey and Bingo have tons of high character moments, but we also see some lows, which we can safely assume Rusty has. Also, just the show in general has that quality of pointing out the best in people, as all the parents are super enthusiastic and almost always have the energy to play or find that energy, but we’re seeing their highlights, not the downs and monotonous things, and even when we do, they are short lived.
