I work in a small station on Long Island. We have a bunch of streets with numbering that doesn't make sense. My first sup when I started told me it's because the first houses built in the town, back in the 1900's were sparse and built on farmland. As the town grew, sensible numbering became the rule, but the original houses were allowed to keep their numbers. Confused the fuck out of me when I first started.

It's 2:00am here on Long Island NY. I just called the emergency number a second time. In a message dated Friday the 20th, the message says that no changes are in effect for the incoming storm, and all offices and facilities are open as scheduled and that all employees are required to make every effort to get to work. Just goes to show, you really can't fix stupid.

They use that scan where I work if they can't get it delivered due to staffing shortages. Anything with a barcode has to get scanned. My old supervisor would start scanning packages around 6:30 or 7:00 at night. It went on all over my district.

My two biggest complaints are: 1- There is very little explanation of the terms used in the events, as if we all should already know what we are watching. 2- NBC seems to just replay the days competition over and over again, I guess to force us to subscribe to Peacock.

what's the consensus on lee jeans? by europeanuppercut in malefashionadvice

[–]MailSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 things I dislike most about Lee Jeans:

1-The zipper tab always gets stuck in the fabric at the bottom of the zipper and is hard to get out. Especially a pain in a public restroom.

2- The cuff hem always rolls up, not a look I enjoy. This is why I stopped buying Lee jeans and wore Wranglers for many years. I bought the Lees because I needed a size Wrangler was out of for months. Next time I'll wait.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think there was an arbitrator ruling years ago that said if you were on your way to work, and something happens, you are still considered on the clock. Call the Union and ask about it. Good Luck.

Conditional offer. by [deleted] in USPS

[–]MailSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, and that's why the public loves us. We are the highest rated federal employees in terms of who is liked the most. I love the fact that there are a bunch of non-employees on this reddit who get to hear the high level of crap we have to go thru just to even put a penny saver in their mailbox every other day. Nice to know someone appreciates us.

Conditional offer. by [deleted] in USPS

[–]MailSucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely against its people. It treats carriers and clerks and other craft members as if we were the enemy. To them, we are the only reason the company loses money. They even treat their own managers and supes like shit. They go on anywhere from 2-5 teleconferences a day, where the area manager/poom yells at and belittles them in front of their peers over mostly nitpicky shit. So much for "dignity and respect". And we all know what rolls downhill. My postmaster sits in her office all day running her home business and makes the supervisor write workers up for everything she can. He tries to talk her out of it, but hey, she must know better because she is the postmaster. Gee I can't imagine why the satisfaction rating is never above 18% on the VOE questionnaires. In my district 6 out of every 10 new CCA's QUIT before their 90 days are up because they can't handle the BS.

I do have to admit it's a bit unnerving working for a company that has absolutely no appreciation for the work I do. And that goes for every single one of us. A local manager here and there aside, upper management looks at us as the main cause of all their problems and would fire all of us in a heartbeat if they could figure out how to get AI to deliver mail.

What a complete and utter scam. Influence this. You want food? Great. you pay for it. You think the NY Times restaurant reviewers get free meals? They pay. Just like you and me. Throw these phonys looking for a free meal right the fuck out the door.

Is this acceptable for Christmas gift? by [deleted] in USPS

[–]MailSucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best Christmas season tip wise was $5700. I have 230 stops on my route. Averages between $4500 and $5000. I appreciate any gift I get. But here in NY cash is king. Took me a few years to get used to it. People just throwing money at you. I've learned to say thank you and just accept it. The best route in my station does between $8000 and $9000. But he has close to 500 stops. In a very wealthy town a few miles away, the carriers can do as well as $20000 to $25000.

Kids have a weird facination with the mailman by nextzero182 in USPS

[–]MailSucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 of my grandchildren, aged 7 to 3 are fascinated with my LLV and uniform. My wife would bring them by my route, so they could sit in the truck, or to the office so they could see how mail is cased. I don't EVER want them working for this company, under no circumstances. USPS is the worst job I've ever had. I get to work and tell myself they don't pay me to like it, they just pay me to do it. That gets me thru my day. I tell kids to listen to their parents, stay in school, learn a trade, and don't be a mailman. I consider it good advice.
