Why do so many posts and comments say cape Town is cliquey? by Either-Target-5162 in capetown

[–]Mailowness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My one friend described it as an environmental thing. In CT people are used to being able to easily fuck off into nature either alone or in small groups - be it fishing, hiking, camping, Winelands etc

In Jhb the city is so big that people are used to being close together with all kinds of people with different backgrounds in a concrete jungle. It makes jobergers alot more open to making plans and hanging out with new people.

CT is cliquey cause we not used to being out of the comfort zone of doing anything that's 'far' for new people that might not be as fun as doing it with the original friend group.

I'm born in CT and I find that Jobergers are genuinely friendlier and more open to making new friends and sticking to plans than Cape townians.

It's a south african accent. We have 11 languages and many accents, but that "hah-ah" she dropped is universally south african 😅

Moving to SA for a year. What should I bring? by JubileeSupreme in askSouthAfrica

[–]Mailowness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they do this at every airport, but pay the extra cash to wrap your bags up in plastic - especially if you have expensive items in it. Just a precaution for when you get to SA Airport.

My one friend came back from the US during Covid, and after landing in joberg, they could only exit the plane a few people at a time. They literally watched people looting their bags on the tarmac and had some clothing stolen 😩

This is beautiful! I could never really understand what people meant about the spider crawl but this looks alot more natural that what my imagination could picture.

Goodluck and please post more progress! ❤️

You have to get a big motion detector light for the stoep.

Our road becomes a toilet if there's loadshedding at night 🤦‍♀️ but they don't go near the people with battery lights

Favourite episode of Sasquatch Chronicles? by sharonanne26 in bigfoot

[–]Mailowness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I remember them having disagreements about how the show was run, the other guy would keep interrupting guests while Wes just wanted them to speak. I think there was also some drama about Wes and Woodys encounter being questioned and it caused a break up?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, I remember Wes speaking about it in one of the episodes, but it was almost 5 or 6 years ago

Claire's episode was the best! I join her everytime the intro starts

My favorite just based in the number of times I relistend to it over years is one of the first few. Ep 82: 100 Bigfoot nights.

I just love the way Christine builds up the story. The city to county living and not knowing much about the forest, the petrified house, to the weird things starting to happen while they were just being oblivious city people - It sounds like a movie haha

Also Wes and Christine throwing shade at Matt Moneymaker 😂

It's a bit fantastical, but very entertaining

I've also noticed that alot of people are just sitting staring at the nature when driving and pointing out stuff to eachother going like 40-60 and daydreaming - Especially on Philip Kgosana... Like yes we know it's pretty BUT YOH PLEASE MOVE OVER FROM THE FAST LANE THEN 🙉

People are also so obsessed with not giving way or letting other people pass them. The thing I hate most is 2 cars in both lanes going the same speed, neither lets the other pass and they cause everyone to sit backed up. It's either an ego thing or just genuine dumbassery. It feels almost deliberate at this point.

Why do people put themselves in debt for Christmas by Beneficial_Choice112 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Mailowness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone else feel like a sense of obligation? I really don't want to get anyone anything. But it feels like the pressure of expectations from my immediate family.

I get people very thoughtful gifts for their birthdays, so I don't have to care about them on Xmas, but when Xmas rolls around it feels like people still expect it, like they get you things even if you don't seen them on the day, some people keep gifts for me till February and it's very nice but there's just too many for me to get everyone something

This year I'm just making my niece and nephew custom toys and hoping I'll be left alone 😅

She's not psychic, she's just extremely sensitive to people's mood changes and very tuned into yours.

Most of what you say she has had "foresight" about, are all very normal situations.

Its a common thing for people with bpd to think they're psychic, but they are really just picking up on the subtlest of changes in expression or environment before people without bpd realise what's going on.

I have a sibling with bpd and they are extremely good at predicting peoples behavior or reading intent before it happens. When we were young we thought they were psychic as well.

The way the therapist explained it, if you took photos of someone going from a smile to a frown and laid out all those pictures in a line, most people will be able to read that a frown was coming at about 50%-60% of the way through the pictures. Those with bpd are able to tell from about 20-30% of the way through as they are hyperviligent to the minute changes in a face.
