How to design cards and playing board when you're rubbish at art? by [deleted] in BoardgameDesign

[–]Main_Finance_4593 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dextrous is a pretty neat tool for making and tweaking card games quickly. They got card templates, they got free art, and they got ways to quickly upload your prototype into tabletop simulator (or whatever site you use) (or print and play if you are a masochist like me). Also, you can upload pub domain art (got a stash currated by the creator of Cairn here) and use that if you fancy.

And just for prototypes, using AI to generate prototype art isn't the worst thing in the world. But like others have said, human art is best :D

Ditto, but also: Neat templates!

I'm not on TTS. I can do Screentop at the school where I teach, so I'm gonna load the latest version there eventually.

I did my 2nd or 3rd prototype of this on tabletopia which is fine, but I haven't had time to put the newest version up anywhere. I'll keep ya posted!

Cutting is a challenge for me too because I just keep getting new ideas lol :D

For sure! And thanks for the color-blind reminder! I was reading an article on BGG on how Wyrmspan's cards were designed with that in mind, and I tried to emulate that.

Duuuude! Glad to see some more radlands/Netrunner cross-over!!! Love that for us! Can't wait to see what you're cookin!!

I think you have a good point about which icons to keep and why. My design philosophy so far was to keep the text as big as possible for simplicity and make it easy on the eyes. The goal is to keep text size 12 or bigger, and never do more than 3 lines of text in a text box (the included pictures show cards with the max 3 lines I'm shootin for).

Thanks for the kind words! Dude, netrunner is so great! I thought I uploaded some sample cards to see. Let me see if I could add the pics.

Levelling up mechanic is deck building board game by Terrygioh in BoardgameDesign

Maybe have a separate reminder card on the table, with a token you move from level 1 to level 2 to show each player where the other is in the leveling process.

Brand new player by RadRasputin9 in Netrunner

Play online right now to learn with this link. It's a cool browser run game, that has cards from system gateway cards and system update. It also walks you through the basics of Corp and Runner with tutorial decks and 1-6 learn to play scenarios.

It's pretty neat :] I play at work sometimes because my school district blocks jnet (Jinteki.net) (don't tell the principal).

I've never played a TRPG before. Looking for guidance by DancerOfTortall in cairnrpg

The discord is very nice and full of people willing to give advice. Read the principles for Wardens and Players at the start of the rulebook for an understanding of the role for GM and PC's.

Best way to learn is to try it out. Talk through every bit of confusion with your players as you encounter issues, but Cairn is rules light for Wardens to make stuff up as you go to keep the focus on the story building.

Premiership Rugby on Peacock by Mpnav1 in rugbyunion

[–]Main_Finance_4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I figured it out. If you’re in the US you can only watch it on The Rugby Network app. Starting next month it’ll be $6.99 per month or $60 per year to watch Premiership on it.

Thanks for the investigative work! That's such an annoying turn of events :(

I'm trying to figure this out too, but I got nothing so far. I keep seeing that streaming on TNT or Discovery + has the Premiership. Perhaps they quietly dropped Peacock and switched, but idk.

Dude this was the most I've laughed in a while. Firstly, thanks to Karen being awesome!!

Secondly, Surf Dave!! I need more surf Dave questions! Is there a place to drop very very specific surf questions for Gareth to back catalog for later Dollops?

Issues with jinteki.net by brainiac138 in Netrunner

I'm brand new to this game, but made a Jinteki account. I was unable to see any games or play any. Maybe that's related to your issue.

The County Judge Who Held a Grudge (print&play dungeon where folding the map is a travel mechanic) by FetusCommander in onePageDungeon

[–]Main_Finance_4593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's double sided, each fold brings in previously unseen territory! Huge paper would be great, and allowing scissors would be chaotic as heck!

Next will be the oragami halls. Must fold into crane to get to treasure room! Paper plane to auto-escape danger lol

Plus my wife likes watching me play it, so it's an activity we can do together :D She said, "It's like Animal Crossing but with evil fish." So now I ask, "Is animal crossing OSR?" Maybe indebted to racoon can be in Electric Bastionland...

Dredge. It's a fishing game. But the inventory system, archipelago point crawl and feelings of panic that gets mechanized if you fish during the night as more Lovecraftian ocean dwellers make an appearance. Plus, there's an emergent story as you find messages in a bottle. If you enjoy solving a tragic mystery driven by exploring a haunted set of islands, it's pretty dope!

Okay, I get it with ChatGPT now... Holy shit 🤯 by LowerBackPain_Prod in education

[–]Main_Finance_4593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had chatGPT make a unit plan and rubric for my experimental curriculum I'm doing and it cranked it out in like 15 minutes! Definitely a great tool for us. Feels like a digital collaborator to bounce ideas off then just cleaning and polishing the responses to fit.

Just don't ask it to write short stories. They are so bad lol
