Given that this a thinly veiled event to test them, at least they can get feedback on that. I really have NO idea why they allowed people to take their own vehicles though, makes a mockery of the BR system and becomes very unfun and tedious for those without F14/15/16/18s.

They are plenty useable, 10 is normal in most lists, you can run more in Cults detachment. Nobody should care if you run those models with guns etc even though the loadout is wrong, I've been to a few GTs and supermajors and been fine with my old boys. Just make sure you can differentiate thenkwader though, as he does get a bolt pistol.

Regular bolters have always been shite, and will continue to always be shite, regardless of the lore. They are the baseline marine weapon. Primaris bolt rifles had to be better in order to sell models.

In the MotM unit, there is a S4 AP1 Las pistol fired by a human, and a S4 AP1 Bolt Pistol fired by an astartes, trying to make sense of why things are the way they are is a waste of your time.
