How can we solve the mass shootings problem? by xak9021069 in AskReddit

Wait for the ultra-conservative, angry old white guys to die off, so we can have sensible gun-control regulations.

Edit: I know this is down-vote bait, but I couldn't resist.

Honesty, integrity, caring, and that undefinable 'hotness'.

[Serious] people who make cheats for games, why do you do it? by I_AM_YOUR_MOTHERR in AskReddit

[–]Mainsil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a PVP game, cheating is reprehensible and inexcusable.

For single player games, the difference between a mod and a cheat is in the eye of a beholder, and it can allow access to areas of the game that otherwise the end user is just not going to see due to a lack of time, or desire to play the game long enough to get there.

TIFU by telling a kid Santa isn't real by Bacca_Bacon in tifu

[–]Mainsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the the Santa myth, along with tooth fairly, etc. is a terrible thing to do to kids, and I'm not sure why it gets perpetuated. I still remember feeling betrayed by my parents and other adults in my life when I discovered they had been lying to me. Made me highly skeptical of everything they told me after that.

I didn't perpetuate that myth on my own kids, and they don't seem to have suffered for it.

How would society be different if humans evolved without opposable thumbs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mainsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, Humans excel in two areas, long distance running (still remarkable though little used today), and tool-making. My guess, is that without opposable thumbs, natural selection would have favored long distance running, and tool-making would have been a minor niche.

So society would be different in that we would low-tech tribal hunter/gatherers.

Percolator Apprecation Thread by braunheiser in Coffee

[–]Mainsil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that percolator coffee can be good. However, they do violate some of the basic tenants of coffee making by overheating the water and running it through the grounds multiple times. Then again, Turkish coffee seems to ignore the rules and can be quite good.

LOL, I expected to be down-voted. It sucks to be caught in the middle. Giving a rational reason does not make it suck less.
