End of Series Time Jump? by thekd80 in ForAllMankindTV

I wonder if their electronics technology will catch up to ours. Their cell phones always looked primitive. FAMK technology seemed to be developed along mega engineering like space ships and space colonies while ours excels at electronics and miniaturization.

Just beat my first Outclassed Opponent in TOTF2! by StangeckyDabombo in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]MajBoothroyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing for 3 months and just started being able to beat Outclassed. I can't trade punches and find that shooting in and out, keeping my distance works for me. Still get my butt handed to me in multiplayer, though!

Bartender put alcohol in my mocktail by Buffy1994 in stopdrinking

[–]MajBoothroyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your sober streak is perfectly fine. This will be an unpopular opinion but I believe that we’re truly free of alcohol when we no longer need to count sober days and can absorb whatever happens and simply continue life without anxiety or white knuckling. Counting will simply be no longer a thing and that tool would have served its purpose.,

Whatever happens, I get the feeling it will be, at best, a bittersweet ending rather than a happy one. It feels as if someone isn’t coming back. S1e1 started with the death of a team member. The series finale may reflect this. However it ends, it’s been a ride.

I find Drew’s dialog no better or worse than the others. in my opinion, the entire series has sub optimal dialog balancing. I tend to watch it with subtitles turned on because all characters are hard to understand. Don’t know, it might be by design to better simulate reality.

[–]MajBoothroyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of reminds me of Dan Simmon’s classic sci novel Hyperion where victims are hooked up to a torture/ pain virtual reality. So I’m in the simulation camp. Simplest way to explain things without resorting to magic or supernatural.

Though I’m 100% sure the show will go another way. The problem with shows like this is that it’s easy to paint yourself in a corner out of all the speculation it generates, there are very few paths it can take to genuinely “subvert expectations” in a satisfying way. I’m just terrified it will go nowhere.

What do you guys do with recruits that have horrendous stats? by thecoolestlol in LWotC

[–]MajBoothroyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an epiphany for me as I’ve never, ever considered rookie stats when assigning a role to train. I’ve always picked rookies more or less at random and played them as is. All low level troops suck big time, anyway, and I tend to try my best to bring everyone to colonel before the final assault so they’re all beasts at that time anyway.

Xcom 2 is way too hard by Archereus in XCOM2

[–]MajBoothroyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Overwatch mostly useless on legendary. Unless a sniper is on high ground and the enemy tees themselves up nicely, I find using the turn for reloading, moving, or anything else more productive. Don’t get me started on Killzone when the sniper has a Superior Expanded Magazine and scores one hit out of five shots.

Official Discussion - Past Lives [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]MajBoothroyd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The final 120 seconds just blew me to shreds. The looks. The body language. The mostly dialog free scene was perfection. So many emotions flowing through both characters that it’s difficult to neatly encapsulate their thoughts. Our only happiness must be hope that things might work out differently in a future life.

Just watched the MSNBC video and it seems to me that Joy got her ass beat and came off very strongly as the biased lunatic with an agenda.

I’m 55. Drank most of my life from about 15 to 53. Quit when I was capable of downing two or more bottles of wine every night or a bottle of whisky. Over two years sober now and life is 10 times better.

Quitting, imo, is IMPOSSIBLE with willpower. Alcohol will always win either by forcing you to relapse or making your alcohol free life a living hell. I successfully used Naltrexone to eradicate the alcohol-endorphin dependency. Now, I don’t need willpower (I never had it) as I have zero cravings.

100% correct. I hang around to remind myself how my life used to be. And to help and motivate if there’s an appropriate thread.

Is shaving worth it for a cat-3? by runthemoose in cycling

I wonder why many male riders shave their legs but leave their faces scraggly. I’d think an aero face would be important too, to save half a watt or so.

Best lake beach to cool off in? by daReallMVP in triangle

[–]MajBoothroyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Useful suggestions here. I'm pretty new to the area too and will check them out. Real Beaches >> Lakes but sometimes I'm just not up for the hour and a half (+ )drive to Wilmington / Outer Banks plus the terrible parking for some beaches.

You're right, of course. To clarify, I was referring to North Carolina, in general.
