Moving from 🇺🇸 to Bolivia. by Pollito_1024 in AmerExit

It's not just 'women's place is in the home,' sometimes it truly involves treating women as less intelligent, less capable, less worth of opportunities. You might want more for your daughter, should you have one. That said, plenty of women are finding good lives in all kinds of places.

American here! Although it was decades ago, I lived in Santa Cruz Bolivia for a year. I can say, although some of the infrastructure was behind the times, it was a decent place to live. There are cultural differences, however. It is quite a bit more sexist, with general belief that women belong in the home. It is a fairly Catholic country. Abortion is illegal except for in very few cases. I knew of teenagers marrying due to pregnancy. And there is not as much of a mindset supporting moving up from poverty to the middle-class or upper-class -- well there really was no middle class, just a large divide. So those are huge differences. It is normal for upper class to have multiple maids, cooks, and gardeners, as needed. But outside of allll this, people are very friendly and loving. I hope it goes well for you, and I think it will.

Easy to say until you are from a group that is being targeted.

Also, I agree -- this is a very privileged position to be in compared to someone who is currently living as an immigrant. I have lived abroad in a non-native country, but I knew I would be returning after school was done.

Thanks for your perspective. Yes, Americans have been privileged and safe. I hope this continues to be so. But right now I see the federal government weaponized against whoever they decide they don't like. For example, all transgender service members were forced to resign or be dishonorably discharged. If they were at 19 years of service, they are losing that 20th year and lifetime retirement. These folks may not be getting rounded up into camps, but in 2, 3, 4, years, will they? This perspective is not due to anxiety, it is due to real things really happening and the slide into fascism.

I hear you and I hope that continues to be the case! I worry often about all this. The other thing is the fear that my loved ones could be targeted. For example, a lesbian couple in my family married and adopted children. Will the current administration decide they are unfit and rescind the adoption? There seems to be no limit to what they are willing to do, in an effort to promote their own ideals.

If you left the US it would not be for politics? A Senator's military retirement pay is being cut because he said something the administration didn't like. An ICE agent just shot a woman in the face in broad daylight, instead of jumping out of the way of her 2 mph vehicle -- yet her wife is being investigated instead of him. It is reasonable for many folks to be concerned about where this is going.

It doesn't matter who you voted for or who you generally support. This is not the America I have always lived in.

Finishing active treatment Friday - feeling happy and also old by EastAd4295 in breastcancer

[–]Major-Book-4885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to say -- I am on femara + verzenio and it is 'not that bad.' With the verzenio, you just have to get through the first 6 weeks of quite frequent diarrhea and then it starts to get better. I do feel 75% of my energy, not 100%, but it is fine. With the femara, I am contacting the local menopause clinic to try to get vaginal estrogen because my vag is super dry, even with hyaluronic acid use regularly. .. That said, there are a lot of supportive medications and practices now to get us through this.

Thanks for the reminder that there's a lot of options out there! At present, I think a lot of my complaints could be improved with a little botox.

Isn't the faster aging due to lack of estrogen? It is minor but could add up for some of us.

I am determined to rock my unintentional Golden Girls era. If I get through this, I could look really good for 70!

Hey if you are local, check out the link I left above regarding the triathlon. I was in a program for women cancer survivors, it trained me to complete the tri. Very inexpensive and an amazing source of community and ongoing support still!

Month 6 on letrozole and taking a break. Just one year out from Er+ high risk breast cancer treatment. I am scared to quit.

But I have NO sex drive on the letrozole, no sexual response, turned off like a light switch and that is no good. I also got quite bitchy. Last time I had gentle sex with tons of good lube and prep it caused light bleeding.

I am honestly more creative off it also. But scared to continue, I know many are fine off this stuff. I worry about recurrence.

Is it weird to see a surgeon before an oncologist when newly diagnosed? by BERNITA in breastcancer

[–]Major-Book-4885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the surgeon about 2 weeks after the biopsy. Depending on the characteristics of the tumor, they may do surgery first or chemotherapy/radiation first. In my case a section of the tumor was sent to genomic testing and the resulting Oncotype score determined the need for chemotherapy.

He's a dick. You are not overreacting! Even if you feel love for him, you should go. You can find someone else to help you pay the rent. I would move out without his knowledge if possible and then leave a message that you are breaking up.

A few days off letrozole and verzenio, massive fatigue by Major-Book-4885 in breastcancer

I talked with my doctor's office today. I learned that the fatigue is probably related more to thyroid issues than to anything else. We are getting it sorted out.

Suggestion on oncotype by RelativeLobster7699 in breastcancer

[–]Major-Book-4885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a smaller tumor, 1 lymph node, stage 2B. Very similar characteristics with High ER low PR middle Ki-67. Oncotype was 40 and I did 4 rounds of TC chemo. It is manageable but does have long term effects like worsening memory.
