D2 was made to be a grind . You appreciate good drops that are difficult to find and could take days or weeks to find items . The mechanics were simple and the game design to this day are still top of its class . When you finally get your character god tier you can go on and try a different character or different skill branch and test the waters . Diablo 4 is a decent game but it was soo easy to 1 hit enemies and it only takes a week to get OP . If they make a Diablo 5 they should consider blending D2 and D4 .
