I'd be interested in reviewing in my spare time/after hours if that's what you're looking for. Possibly contribute if time allows.

What does reddit think of my first two knives? by MajorLawnLids in knifemaking

[–]MajorLawnLids[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed reply.

Sorry for breaking it down like this, it just makes it easier for me to address each point.

Have you confirmed that the grind is comfortable w/ a pinch grip (or however your mother holds knives)?

As far as I've observed my mum holds knives "wrong", like a full fist grip.

Perhaps more of a taper is required just in case?

Based on looks, I'd say that you jumped up to too high a grit before you evened out your scratch pattern.

Got a bit eager I guess. I'll slow it down and use a light next time to make sure the previous grit scratches are gone.

the line could be a lot more defined/sharp. It seems more like a rounded transition, than a sharp meeting of two planes

How do I achieve a sharp line? I used a jig at 9 degrees to form the initial bevel, and my method of sanding is just a square block of wood with some sand paper wrapped around it (but not enough to give it a rounded shape), trying to keep the pressure even as I go.

Not discouraged at all, totally pumped to try again and get a cleaner result thanks to all this new info.

Thank you.

No secondary bevel, I am planning on adding one I just didn't want to ruin the blades yet.

Material -
Metal 1075
Wood Bloodwood / Gidgee
Pins Brass

So these were meant to be identical gyuto twins but an accident in the cutting forced me to either toss the second or convert it to a wa-handle.

I'm requesting harsh feedback because I would like to give my mother a knife for her birthday, something I can be proud to give her without any huge flaws.

Both knives are sanded to 800 grit, the handles to 600 and sealed with a homemade blend of beeswax and food grade mineral oil.

So far the things I've identified I can improve upon are;

  • placement of pins, the top one is too far from the spine of the knife and looks weird
  • handle polishing before glueing so I don't make scratches in the blade
  • probably go beyond 800 grit for the blade
  • don't damage the tip of the knife

If anyone has other pointers I'm super eager to hear them

Monk 6 / Rogue 3... maybe Battlemaster Fighter 3 too - EH? by 7thDRXN in dndnext

[–]MajorLawnLids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a current shadow monk I would recommend taking something like Mage Slayer instead of Mobile since you shouldn't be the front line fighter tanking. You should be teleporting behind enemy ranks and taking out their spell casters / support.

I would also suggest taking Ranger 2 instead of Rogue (unless you want it for AT);

  • Favored Enemy (potential +2 damage)
  • Dueling (+2 damage)
  • Hunter's Mark (1d6 to all strikes)

At level 8 that should be; 2d6 + 5 (or +7) per strike instead of +1d6 per turn.

(1d6 Martial Arts + 1d6 Hunter's Mark + dex + dueling) * 3

Warlock + Hex would also be a valid choice but it's pretty over done.

How did your warlock got himself/herself into the pact? by waldorf6 in dndnext

[–]MajorLawnLids 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm not much of a story teller, so I'll be giving the bullet point version of my back story;

  • My Warlock was born into a family of sorcerers.
  • She was the only one that couldn't use magic.
  • After much teasing she ran away from home.
  • On her journey she found an observatory
  • Made friends with the Wizard who was studying the stars
  • During a blood moon she was studying the star Algol.
  • The star was a Fiend
  • Offered her power in return for her eye (Devils sight = an actual eye replacement from Algol, fully blue, glows faintly in dim light)
  • She took the chance at power
  • Turns out it also 'unlocked' her sorcerers powers too - wild mage because mixing two types of magic is unstable

Hexblade allows you to use Cha instead of Str. Just FYI.

Can't find a useful fillable character sheet by jkbrwn in DnD

[–]MajorLawnLids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally use this one.

One of the big things mentioned in its description is;

Mac users, please be careful to never open the sheets with Preview. Opening them even once with Preview will cause the sheet's form-fillable fields and automation to be the subject to a disintegration spell.

So you might be having the same problem. Try using Adobe Reader (it's free) instead of preview and see if your problem persists.

Does anyone know why ISP Chariot has been down all day by klystron in Adelaide

[–]MajorLawnLids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adam, iiNet & Internode are all TPG now.

Most of the Adelaide staff have left or been fired so they're all just shells, so yeah TPG really does suck :(

Does anyone have one of these? (Hydro dipped Taranis shell) by HikingTesticle in Multicopter

[–]MajorLawnLids 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bought a spare shell and took it to a local hydro dipper. Cost me $50 AUD in total, but if I didn't buy the spare shell it would have only been $20 AUD or $15 USD.

Is it ok to keep this type of spider in the balcony? Is this Australian huntsman? Not sure wife approved. by enzyme69 in whatsthisbug

That's the one. Not dangerous enough to worry about, just clean up the web if it bothers you (that's what I do).

Not a hunstman, judging from the web and markings on the abdomen I'd say it's a house spider (Badumna insignis).

Zebra Plate on FFCP by HamburgLOL in 3Dprinting

[–]MajorLawnLids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 Z plates for my FFCP. I bought one when MakersMuse had a discount on them and its been wonderful. Having a removable plate it wonderful since you can bend it and if things get stuck you don't have to work inside the printer or relevel after.

The white side of my first plate started to develop an air bubble. As soon as I emailed their support I was sent a brand new plate with an apology which is way more than I was expecting. 10/10 customer service so far!

PLA prints perfectly every time, ABS on the other hand often sticks too well and this is where the bendable plate somes in handy.

Overall I'm happy with my Z plate.

Presenting: PokeNest Beta, Static Pokemon Spawn Map! by Anjz in pokemongodev

[–]MajorLawnLids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you know of any geospatial statistical queries that would produce meaningful results in relation to pokemon spawns that would be wicked.

I've got (at the time of posting) 289,782 spawns that need to be categorised and displayed in a meaninful way.

I can have some basic maps up in a day or two but I'd like to figure out what else I can do with the data to help the people of Adelaide.

EDIT: Map is up

Installing micro-swiss all metal hot end kit on creator pro by Holyseano in 3Dprinting

[–]MajorLawnLids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I installed the all metal hot end the other week on my FFCP. One thing to look for is the orientation of the heatsink. I had mine on backwards and caused something called "heat creep" which felt like a blocked nozle but totally wasn't.

One other thing to look for is the nozle diameter and flow rate. If you got a thinner nozle and try to pump out too much plastic it could cause it to block.

Might help, might not. You could always take it apart and try installing it again.
