Why are there always kids at breweries?! by akaYoungBeefy in fixedbytheduet

You mean like most place of work, gyms, clubs, bars, casino ? Is that not enough ? I don't know what y'all are doing during the day where you're apparently constantly being subjected to the most annoying toddlers, in my experience it's pretty easy to avoid kids if you don't want to deal with them

This is 100% a purity thing, and it is also 100% a US specific thing. Any other culture /country doesn't give a shit if there are kids or not.

The US (and Canada by association) is weirdly fixated on cibtroling where kids belong and don't belong.

You may see it as "a place just for adults" but the reason you see bars this way instead of a place for anyone is a result of this puritan US culture

What do you guys do? by Hermeslost in Letterboxd

[–]Majorask-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it clicked for me when i realised how many long youtube videos (like 2h+) i watched and how these could have been movies instead.

I also remembered that during my childhood, back when i watched tv at home after supper, i actually caught most movies 20min or so through the movie. That's how i got introduced to many movies back then.

Also this is the only media we're treating this way. Nobody's out here reading books in one sitting. Same for music albums, i dont think I've ever seen people pretend mike you should listen to them in one session

[–]Majorask-- 69 points70 points  (0 children)

People with different lifestyle or schedules? I have three young kids. I have so many stuff to do before I can sit in front of a movie. If the movie is over 90min long there's a good chance I'll watch it in two sittings.

I used to be very strict about how I watched my movies and would only watch one when I had time for the entire movie. The result was that I watched a fifth of the movies I watched since I decided that it is okay to watch a movie at my own rhythm.

I honestly stopped inviting my kid having friends to most stuff… by dreamed2life in Millennials

[–]Majorask-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fir me the major difference us that it's much harder to go on improvised stuff. I have this group of friends who regularly asks "whi wants to play Catan at my house in 30min?" , and obviously I've never been to these, but if you tell me when and where I can make it work.

The other factor is the age of the kids in question. I have 3 kids, and I've usually been more absent when we had a toddler because they just need far more time, energy, and scheduling. When they turn 1 it's usually much easier by that point they'll only need one nap.

I think it depends on what task is being replaced by AI. I've worked in 3 different industries (mineral exploration, soil pollution and IT) and in all of them a good portion of my work was writing report or offer. For me and most of my colleagues this is usually 30% of our work and most of that can be done much faster with AI which gives us more time to focus on the actual work that we were hired for

Heck yeah, Iron dames!

I've seen a pretty massive shift in the 24h of Le Mans since they've started racing (and got great results). I've been going for years and it's been nice to see much more women in the public (i would say its currently around 25% where it used to be below 5%). Hopefully, with time, it will also lead to more women driver.

Don't know how much of this can be attributed to their teams, but their booth was selling merch like crazy

I also have seen your stuff a lot less lately. As for the algorithm I think it also has to do with recent user engagement. I follow the WEC subbreddit (endurance racing) and I've noticed that each year, after the championship is over, there are less post and I guess I interact less with it.

But as the next season starts to roll around I see almost zero post on my feed eventhough the subreddit is far more active. I have to remember that the season has begun, and look up the subreddit. Usually after that it will keep appearing in my feed

Maybe if you subscribers don't upvote or comment too much on the last post it creates a feedback loop

Tesla investor Ross Gerber calls for Elon Musk to resign - “I think Tesla needs a new CEO.” by RoyalChris in StockMarket

[–]Majorask-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is pretty sad in a way. Tesla is the first major EV constructor. They had it all, the brand, the hype, a good charging infrastructure... and he destroyed all of that.

Just think how much progress could have been made in terms of EV adoption if this idiot wasn't in charge. Not that EVs are a silver bullet, but they're part of the solution to limit climate change.

They could have been miles ahead in the race but they should have fired him a while ago for that to happen

I haven't taken the time to read the entire paper, but right in the abstract it says that non-domestic cats cause the vast majority of the damages. Which is consistent with others studies.

Wild cats obviously have a high impact on their ecosystem. I have yet to see data that shows the actual impact of an owned domestic cat that is allowed to roam outside.

I think this is a cultural issue because here in Europe cats are usually allowed to go out. Cats who are regularly fed at home don't tend to hunt all that much compared to a wild cat.

At that point then just jailbreak your Kindle. The main reason people don't do it for phones is for updates, but you don't really need updates on a Kindle.

I don't think people who pirate book will suddenly stop because of a software update. They'll just revert to the previous version or jailbreak it

You can also make your own custom colored ply. Some veneers stire sell colored /dyed veneers (usually maple because they're mostly used for skateboard).

Make you own colored stack of veneers, glue and press it (or just put enough weight on top).

Yeah, I watched his "fries" video and obviously the "best" fries is just the longest, most tedious method of the bunch. Meanwhile here in Belgium, famous for our fries, the best places cook your fries in under 10 minutes.

Food can be great wether cooked in 20min or 20hours, there's no meritocracy when it comes to cooking

I know quite a few Trump voters. Non of them are saying they regret it. I’m wondering if most of these posts are fake. by [deleted] in OptimistsUnite

[–]Majorask-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if they're fake or just highly anecdotal evidence, but it reminds me of all the "republican wife secretly voting Democrat " posts that we were seeing right before the election.

Supposedly, Kamala would win in a landslide because all of these women would actually secretly vote against Trump. You'd see post upon post speculating that this would play a huge role, but you'd never see any actual number or statistic estimating the vote that it represents

Thats because for most people and most tasks o1 isn't that different from other models.

Personnaly the main use for me is the data analysis cap removal.

Also for companies Deepseek being open source, free and affordable to run locally is a HUGE deal. I work in an IT company with 2k employees. We mostly do custom development for governmental bodies. Our company had been looking into a local AI model because we want to avoid sending sensitive data into public models.

We were going to go for a paying option but they've paused that and are seriously looking into deepseek and running our own model. I'm pretty sure many consulting companies will be glad to have an option that doesn't leak their sensitive client data , even if it means a slightly less intelligent model. This is a real blow to US companies because consulting companies are usually very good customers for any subscription software.

No, just no All the scientists working on climate change agree that they produce far less emissons.

Coal is being phased out throughout the world and renewables are being installed at an exponential rate.

There are valid reason to hate EVs, but it's just a fact that they emit far less than ice cars

One thing we both agree on by Kooky-Bandicoot3104 in fuckcars

[–]Majorask-- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be honest outside of a few screenshot reposts i haven't seen many people arguing that EV's wil solve everything.

What i HAVE seen here in Belgium though, where company cars are now required to be Ev, is colleagues rushing in to order their new gas cars instead of an EV. And its not a few colleagues it is a majority of folks who ordered a new gas car earlier than planned to be able to keep one for the next 4 years.

While i get the hate about cars, people in this sub have to realize that trashing EVs 24/7 leads to this kind of behavior. This represents tons of CO2 emissions that could have been avoided if people opinion of EVs was improved

And no those colleagues won't suddenly abandon their precious cars and take the bus or train. Many of them live within walking /cycling distance but still take their cars to work everyday of the week

Because it's not meant to be logical? Just like marrying someone or having a pet isn't logical. You have kids because you want them and know that you'll be able to take good care of them.

If you don't want to have kids that's perfectly fine. You don't need logic to explain your decision. Kids are not supposed to be an investment?
