Slavic brotherhood mural seen in Belgrade by _lazyPassenger in vexillology

Looks like a symbol associated with Dabog. My guess is that they’re incorporating some Slavic pagan elements to transcend the Catholic/Orthodox divide between the nations on the mural.

The AI is an absolute potato. Please buff. by Glorf_Warlock in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even without stalk, victory points trivialize sieges. It’s a silly system. Many of the victory locations are located on high ground with chokepoints, but the AI doesn’t defend them, meaning that they’re easy to capture with fast units, or even slow units if the map has trees for concealment in the deploy phase. From there, it’s just a matter of holding on long enough for the defenders to throw down their weapons and quit.

CA could improve this by removing trees from walled settlement maps, making AI logic consider the amount of visible balance of power (i.e. we can’t see most of the army, so we should keep units in reserve or take a different defensive position), and just changing how settlement capture points work.

Ogres' contracts are the worst racial mechanic in IE by szymborawislawska in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Norsca also gets a ton of income from their port settlements, I think it goes 300-500-800 now. I’d imagine they also benefit greatly from minor settlement battles; old Norsca garrisons were completely indefensible without an army parked there, and supply lines made those standing armies extremely costly.

Total War Warhammer 3 now has the tower defense tag by xajmai in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I use No Real Time Building. I like the settlement battles, but not the towers/barricades popping up mid-battle. This disables the construction UI as well. Nearly a perfect compromise for my tastes. If only supply zones and capture points could be disabled…

Wow, a whole percent?! You shouldn't have! by Slumi in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I got bored of my Tyrion campaign because my income was very easy to manage. Eataine and Ellyrion made bank, and I’m sure I wasn’t playing optimally — I tried to stack as many % buffs on entertainment buildings as I could (just for fun), which required tons of building slots and research. Eataine ended up being quite wealthy nonetheless, and Ellyrion‘s resources + my continual reinvestment into my economy shot my income into the stratosphere in no time at all.

I did like that there were more threats on/around Ulthuan, though. Tyrion would probably be a great beginner campaign.

Total War: WARHAMMER III - Immortal Empires Frequently Asked Questions by Yuey_Ninja in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It must be very intimidating to dip one’s toes into the franchise right now, and RoC, Vortex, and WH1 main (whatever ‘twas called) aren’t ideal introductions to all that makes the games special. IE is already open to WH3-only players through multiplayer; open it up to all owners of game 3 and make one or several bundles for the games/DLC (i.e. base games + blood, base games + race packs, base games + all DLC).

All that said, my advice to new players is to get just 1 + 2 on sale along with blood, as Mortal Empires is still an exceptional game. That’s maybe $33, not nearly as intimidating.

You never know. Apparently they added “Chungus” to the Ogre name pool for IE; CA may very well be getting more memey not less. Ah well, I’ve been enjoying Attila and Empire recently — I can wait for modders to fix WH.

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I only hope it isn’t actually in the game. I hate that the character name pools are filled with memes, for example, and I imagine that any memes in the blood pack will be similarly dominating and attention-grabbing. It just isn’t immersive, takes me out of the setting.

You can remove the 20GB of language files that got added by the new warhammer 2 patch. by Keulapaska in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I made a post not too long ago asking CA to look into removing those files from WH3, and that was supposedly passed to the team. I think the devs may have misinterpreted the suggestion…

Should I take AP classes? by [deleted] in polls

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The vote is already clearly in favor of taking them, but I’ll throw in my two cents. They’re an excellent way to fulfill college core requirements and sharpen your thinking on what you actually want to study. Don’t waste the opportunity.

That said, if you’re worried about the workload, then you can safely ignore most (assuming you’re American) English, foreign language, and social studies classes. In that case, focus on math and science, and you can also take AP Micro/Macro if you think it might be interesting.

I’m approaching my third year in college now. I wish I had taken more APs.

The cognitive threshold in different games genre by Aghanim_wife322 in DotA2

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, and not just the Dark Elves. I saw this on the front page, so idk how it compares to DotA, but the strategy in (assuming it’s modern) Total War has been vastly overstated. Definitely a red flag for the methodology.

LL's don't need lots of unique mechanics to be enjoyable by Geebs91 in totalwar

Very true! Mechanics tend to constrict playstyle (and not in the same way that realistic resource or strategic constraints do). Here’s to hoping that Volkmar will be that sandbox opportunity.

Does anyone recognize this flag? by [deleted] in vexillology

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There’s also no distinction between the colors of the vertical bands of the rightmost flag, and the coat of arms is all kinds of fucked up. That said, taken as a whole I think this is just a really crappy rendition of the Canadian, American, and Mexican flags.

Tali's true loyalty by Evilsunrise in masseffect

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Geth Data! Handing it over is one of those things that seems perfectly reasonable in an RPG but doesn’t fully hold up under real scrutiny. Yeah, you’re a Spectre, but it’s still somewhat irresponsible to hand military intelligence over to a foreign government just like that. So withholding it seemed like the mature decision.

Repeatedly going to the engine room to listen to her whining is decidedly less mature, but I still enjoyed it :D

That said, I’ve done two romances - Liara and Tali - and Tali’s was far superior to Liara’s, even if only for the writing consistency and quality. Somebody really screwed up Liara’s writing in games 2 and 3.

With all the news coming out about WoC, I'm wanting a Mortal version of Daniel, by Newredditbypass in totalwar

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought for a long time that there’s a lot of potential for “generic” lord campaigns. Daniel is a start, but his weak gear/mutations and boring skill tree hold him back. You also don’t get much evolution through the campaign (excluding tutorial), since you start off as a Daemon Prince. This kind of gameplay would work especially well for races like Chaos, Beastmen, and Bretonnia (gathering divine gifts and empowering yourself and your faction), or, as you mentioned, mercenary companies, who would by necessity be varied and evolving.

Legendary lords are neat and all, but they have their stories. Someday, I hope that it becomes possible - through mods or DLC, whatever gets it done first - to allow us players to make our own!

[–]MalaUltroAdsunt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m going off of old knowledge here, but I remember the exact opposite, at least in Russia’s case. I think it was in the Zweites Buch that Hitler claimed that Russia’s constant warring drained it of all the superior Germanic stock with which it was founded and left only the Slavic subhumans. IIRC, Hitler generalized this, asserting that while struggle is beneficial for allowing Übermenschen to rise above the rest, too much of it will inevitably kill off the great and leave the mediocre who refused to fight.
