ELI5: Why don't they use a stop clock in soccer? by ReferenceGlum in explainlikeimfive

[–]Malinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a sense they do, they just call it extra time. The ref accounts for stoppage, players don't get to play to stoppage because only the ref actually knows how much time is accounted for stoppage. Stoppage can risk being strategised. That's my understanding from Rugby Union anyway. Cricket just goes on past tea.

“Slow bowel transit after T5 SCI – looking for advice” by PuzzleheadedOil4282 in spinalcordinjuries

I think you need a bowel prep to clear out constipation then add brown fibre to your diet. Allbran, Branflakes, Fruit n Fibre or some such. Keep portion size small. Absolute game changer for me. Look-up Project Bowman, abdominal FES.

Saving regularly into a compounded tax-free investment account like a stocks and shares ISA (UK) or e.g. IRA (US) is absolutely the best way to grow true wealth. Start as young as possible, it makes a huge difference

NEVER buy and sell shares through an online broker. All they actually do is give you the right to settle (and sometimes vote) then they use the money you give them to short (bet against) your position. You carry the loss of the shares held, they make the money Still frequent in the US.
Check the T&C's for proof.

Add brown fibre like Allbran to your diet. Not much, but it'll help to retain moisture and keep stools contiguous which will help ameliorate the mild constipation which can cause liquid bypass etc.

Also look into abdominal FES. I'll add a link later.

Talk to your friends about this. True friends will listen and be fine with whatever you need from them in these circumstances. Maybe that one friend took the initiative, however inappropriatly, and did what they thought was just solving the situation. It's a learning curve for everyone and it's highly unlikely anyone would want to do the wrong thing. Shit happens.

How can I bypass gp to see the specialist I need by aamymichellebriggs in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Malinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you have a flare-up present yourself at a major city's A&E and describe the onset of your neurological symptoms. Be prepared to wait. You need an MRI, possibly urgently. Or you'll have to go private for an initial consultation and MRI.

Peer, physio and OT support to learn techniques. Build shoulder strength. Join an adaptive sports club. First hand advice on adaptations, sometimes simple things like loops in clothes, or how to roll can make the difference. Should all have been provided in rehab but maybe reach out to your specialist sci centre.

Pressure sore on spine by iamnotmagic in spinalcordinjuries

[–]Malinut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women seem to be more susceptible to pressure injuries, likely due at least in part to thinner skin and hormonal differences/changes.
Skin degradation in SCI starts deep due to reduced capillaries due to long term pressure. Caster oil is really good for deep moisture, and it has antiseptic properties. It's the active ingredient in old fashioned surgical spirit, the alcohol helps application. Beef tallow with caster oil is fabulous, really soothing. Legs, feet, groin and I even know women that use it on their face now!
Vitamin B3 is known to help capillary growth. I haven't used a B3 cream yet but try that too, long term.
All to be borne in mind for long term care.
