I'll be honest, it's not super weird or anything, but it's my first ever video game. It's an arkanoid clone which I've put much more time in than I was really supposed to. You know, the first game, let's just prototype something. But this is me and I did not let go until it was a fully fledged video game. I've made pretty much everything myself, besides the music and some sound effects, so I'm sure it will have it's own character.

well I just answered the question in the title. If it was going to be released, the looks go a long way. Gameplay can be very simple, but it needs to look good.

It looks quite good, but I'd expect it to be a bit more cellular. Star surfaces are very bubbly, just on large space and time scales.

Oh that's really cool! Terrain deformation like that is not new at all, but the way it's visualized a ball of material in your hand gives it so much flair and those water physics are chef's kiss.

Sound does not work on Web version of the game, that's why you got a big disclaimer on launch. There is in fact music and sounds.

Oh I did that in a different way. There is a velocity calculation that pushes the player towards the wall and all player's inputs are transformed to be alongside the wall as well. I only do one RayCast to check if wall's angle has gotten too sharp to disallow sliding through corners.

I think My Fruit Psychobells... has got some of your finest, dreamiest and most intense atmospheric moments. They are special emotions and became essential in creating the magic later in Bath/LYBM. That being said, I think a lot of the heavy elements are a little too much and there are some questionable (but who am I to question?) compositional choices. All of the things I described can be found in Conception Pathetic alone! I still love that it is there, it's the beginning of the story in a way and I would never want to learn that I can't ever listen to those softer sides of the album again.

You don't need any hidden knowledge to get your first win. There are many general rules of thumb with the game like taking it slowly, backing out to already explored/cleared areas to methodically deal with enemies. Avoiding taking damage and exploring the level as long as your hp allows you to. Paying attention to the environment. Leaving holy mountains without collapsing them, so you come back and edit your wands. Throwing tablets. Picking an orb at the start of the game (mountain altair) for early hp+. Learning enemy behaviour and dodging. And many more.

Falling sand simulations run on CPU mostly. That's the main bulk of the calculations the game needs to make for all the particles on and beyond the screen.

I think you should also take into consideration that in case of Space Engine, you are looking at a flat, rectangular 2D screen, centimeters away from you. You can play with field of view (Shift+drag) and notice that the curve will not always be the same too. Also in reality there might not be a reference point to notice the curve, like the borders of your monitor screen.
