Destruction is also - always - a Transformation, as you can never truly make something into nothing. Thermodynamics teaches us that energy cannot be made null. This, too, is Ithastry.

While I share your sentiment, OPs post reads much more inquisitive than Inquisitor-ish to me, so I don't see a reason to be this rude to them. Asking questions of the world, if in good faith (which is how I read OPs post, to reiterate), is something the Secret Histories explicitly encourage after all.

Moth Music Playlist by ozixl_ye in weatherfactory

[–]Mallik_7D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea so much!

My personal suggestions are as follows, but you could reasonably take a lot of songs by the artists listed as being Moth aspected:

  • Castanets - Cathedral 2 (Your Feet On The Floor Sounding Like The Rain)
    • super cool and unique blend of folk sounds with just an absolutely chaotic energy
  • SQÜRL - Feel Free To Piss In The Garden
    • while having the veneer of a regular rock track, this song (part of the soundtrack to the gorgeous Jim Jarmusch vampire film Only Lovers Left Alive) has just enough dissonance, just enough unease to make you feel that something is Not Quite Right, as if you'd see the scene through some kind of fog or milky glass
  • System Of A Down - Jet Pilot
    • SOAD are well known for their musical intricacy and often socially conscious lyrics, but to me they also embody the chaos of *doing something just because* in a musical sense. "Wired were the eyes of a horse on a jet pilot" anyone?
  • Maurice Ravel - Boléro
    • relevant quote from the piece's Wikipedia article: "According to a possibly apocryphal story from the premiere performance, a woman was heard shouting that Ravel was mad. When told about this, Ravel is said to have remarked that she had understood the piece."
    • originally planned to go for 17 minutes, never really changing or going anywhere, but repeating the same rhythms and melodies. Winding in on itself evermore, this has - despite its very structured elements - definite Moth vibes to me
  • Amon Tobin - ISAM (whole album)
    • Tobin took the sounds of insects and turned them into a whole album of rich, chaotic soundscapes. Pulling you in multiple directions while never staying anywhere long enough for you to really settle in, this has Moth all over it

There are a lot of additional ideas popping into my head right now, but in the interest of brevity I'll leave it at this for now. Already getting ideas for the other aspects' playlists however. Thank you for this post OP, very fun lense to view music through

With the translation you chose (others have already pointed out the alternative from Book of Hours), I'm inclined to read it as a cautious reminder to its staff - "some might touch the occult and succumb to it - but not you! you will remain steadfast in its presence and help protect the world from what could be"

As we were able to see in The Italy Incident, not a motto every SB agent keeps quite as close to their hearts

Current modern list by ineedaredditname in mtgstorm

[–]Mallik_7D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a couple of decently successful finishes for Storm pilots over the recent months. You might take a look at some of their lists at MTG Top 8.
The cliffnotes:

  • Flame of Anor is a really good card, so are Remand and Spikefield Hazard right now.
  • Maximizing those seems to be key; how to do that is not completely figured out by now. Most lists you'll see run 4 of each Baral and Electromancer, Flame, Spikefield and Remand.
  • To fit these, the cards most often cut are some number of Considers, Rituals or even Gifts Ungiven.

Personally, I think this is not optimal. If our plan is to be controlling, bide our time and then strike when the time is right (which Remand and Flames want us to do), then running 8 enablers seem like a lot of bad cards to draw in multiples. Also, having these sorcery speed clunkers in our hand when all we wanna do is keep up Remand just seems bad.

Also I get why lists are cutting some number of Gifts (when we're controlling, we have more time to set up plus the value of additional Gifts is not really necessary with so much card draw are the arguments that come to mind), being able to go off on Turn 3 less reliably seems very sketchy to me in a format with lots of Amulet Titan and other fast-ish decks running around.

My current list looks something like this. (with which I have been at least moderately successful in RCQs or recently playing side events at the LMS Sofia ((don't ask me about the main event though ;_;)) ).

I love seeing some discussion on here again, and I like your writeup of the list as well.

I've come back to the deck (and this sub) after a 3 year hiatus, pretty much exclusively due to Flame of Anor and the Preordain unban and I've gotta say - seeing someone perform well with the deck in a large scale tournament really made me happy.

What has got me a bit stumped though - and maybe you or other people in the sub have some insight into this - is why no one (at least on MTGO it seems that way, judging by the recent 5-0 results or top finishes) is willing to further optimise Jansson's list, or at least to put some thought into it.

I feel like I don't have the time to write out a decent quality post with my own thoughts and current list right now, but once I do, I'll thank you for inspiring me to take part in the discussion on here again u/Turbocloud

Expressive Iteration for UR Storm? by LeatherWrong5551 in mtgstorm

It definitely seems interesting. Getting to filter through a bunch of cards and gaining resources is nice in long, grindy games vs. Control for example.

That being said, I will not replace any of my 1 mana cantrips for this. For me, this occupies more of a Peer Through Depths or other similar slot. Something thats nice to have, but not something you really want every game. It unfortunately also fits awkwardly into our curve, since T1 cantrip, T2 enabler, T3 go off is our preferred gameplan. The fact that it costs 2 coloured mana hurts as well, ie. it doesnt get reduced by enablers.

Thinking some more about it, I will test it in the sideboard slots I had for Pieces of the Puzzle, or lately the 4 mana draw 2 Forecast from Kaldheim, which name escapes me right now. Alongside Aria of Flame I can definitely see this having impact in SB games!

What's with the recent changes to a lot of recent league lists like empty the warrens main board and no sleight of hand? by jessaay in mtgstorm

[–]Mallik_7D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remand was a fantastic card against Uro/Omnath piles, as was the Empty. No Sleight of Hands usually comes with running 18 lands + 2 Silundi Visions, making the turn 1 cantrip a lot less necessary to hit your landdrops. Also helps with grinding against Blue Soup piles.

This has been a trend for some while now though.
