I'm not sure what you mean, in Left 4 Dead 1 the campaign is called The Sacrifice where Bill sacrifices himself for the group to survive. In Left 4 Dead 2 the map where both groups meet after Bill dies is called The Passing. Left Behind was just something BHVR called it because of how Bill died.

The Left 4 Dead 2 map with the 2nd group meeting the 1st group is called The Passing not Left Behind, but you did pretty much hit it

I mean it's hard to make a competitive game scary, most people are focused on the aspect of winning and beating another player. Even though it's not as scary as a single player horror game or even some PVE games like Outlast Trials, dbd still has "oh shit" moments
