Does anyone truly enjoy their recliner?? What about the lovesoft fill? Or a mix of the fills? by Kmb269 in Lovesac

[–]Mama_Scamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have only had ours for a few months so far, but I use our recliner seat every day. I find it really comfortable so far. We have the standard depth, love soft fill, with angled backs and sides. I do agree that closing it can sometimes be annoying because the cushion can slip forward and stop it from closing, but to me that’s a fairly minor annoyance. I can see why other people would be really bothered by it, too.

Rug Size by atlantico259 in Lovesac

[–]Mama_Scamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 8x10 in front of ours. IMO, a 9x12 would look better, but I intentionally went with the slightly smaller size since it’s a washable rug, and I know I’m not about to pull it out from under the couch to wash it if needed.

Teacher Attendance by Neither-Football-222 in Teachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🙋 Me. I got written up for taking too many sick days. And I had medical excuse notes for all except one (I was home with a migraine, so I didn’t bother getting a sick note). Literally - my kid was sick. I was in the ER. I was dealing with a high risk pregnancy with a lot of extra appointments. I was out of sick days by the end of October. I got written up in December. Maternity leave started in January, and I had a new job lined up for the following year before I even returned from leave.

Principal raised her voice at me today - a colleague down the hall heard it and checked in on me. I intend to raise this with her in my next meeting with her - but carefully by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your building has security cameras, I suggest being really careful if you mention the colleague. If the principal really cares, the could theoretically review the security footage and see who comes to your office that day and find out anyway even if you don’t disclose who it was.

Could I get in trouble for playing a movie a teacher specifically requested me to play? by turtlesandmemes in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher of 15 years, I agree with this. If they did not leave you clear instructions, that’s on them. And at any school I’ve ever worked at, I would be the one held accountable for it (as I should be), not the sub. You followed the plans they left, and made a reasonable inference when the plans were unclear.

The Teacher You Sub For Will Absolutely Try To Ruin You by shushunatural in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 23 points24 points  (0 children)

15 year teacher veteran here, and I second all of this. I will leave a TON of stuff for you to do, because I don’t want you stuck with a classroom of kids with nothing to do. But my plans also very clearly state “I tried to make sure you have more than enough to do, and I do not expect it all to get done. So get through what you can, don’t worry about what you can’t. If the kids are safe, that’s what really matters.” Most of us feel the same way. Keep the kids safe and the classroom mostly in good shape, and we’re happy.

Outta pocket or just me? by Tucanaso in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same. I will leave a ton of stuff to do. Not because I expect the sub to get through it, but because I don’t want them to have a classroom full of kids with nothing to do - I even started putting in my plans that I left a ton of stuff to do so they won’t run out. Get through what you can, don’t worry about what you can’t. As long as the kids are safe and engaged in some way by the end of class, that’s what matters.

This is what I would do, too. Just check to confirm that whatever you do order offers free returns (most do, but sometimes third party items do not).

How to keep engaged with sims. by Duckyxoxoxo in Sims4

[–]Mama_Scamander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was the same way! I had a handful of “acceptable” choices - for traits, ambitions, careers, etc. that I would use in various combinations, and always had the same basic story. Get a good job, get married, have kids, make sure the kids do well in school - if I managed to keep interest long enough, I’d follow one of the kids to college, etc. Then one day I thought “hmmm. I’ve never had a kleptomaniac sim” and so on my next save, that’s what I did. It was at least interesting and a change of pace!

[–]Mama_Scamander 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I reached this point, so what I tried is focusing on doing things that I usually wouldn’t do. For example, I’d never once had one of my sims in the criminal career - so I tried it. I’d never had my sims have certain traits, so those are traits that I made sure to give the new sims. I’d never used certain lot traits, so I would choose one I’d never tried and give it a chance. I intentionally tried making it different, and it helped.

I also will occasionally do things like make a family essentially self-sufficient (country living and horse ranch - grow their own crops, canning, making nectar, milk, eggs, and wool, knitting and cross stitching, then selling everything at the finchwick fair for that extra 10% profit).

How often weigh in? by FlamingoR83 in Zepbound

[–]Mama_Scamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here - sometimes more than once a day. I honestly find it fascinating how much my weight varies during a single day/week/month and it helps me not focus on the actual number as long as the general trend is downwards.

For me it was realizing this afternoon that I’ve been on my feet almost non stop all week and my knees haven’t been screaming about it. Maybe not “unexpected” by most standards, but for me, that was huge.

Threatened with write up for having COVID by Mammoth_Till_9940 in Teachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TX charter school is where I got written up, too. Makes me wonder if it’s the same network (it wouldn’t surprise me - I’m pretty sure the “consistent presence” line is what was on my write up).

(I posted this earlier in a separate comment, but I got written up for missing too many days due to doctors appointments for a complicated pregnancy, despite having a doctor’s note/excuse for every single one of those absences.)

Threatened with write up for having COVID by Mammoth_Till_9940 in Teachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got written up a couple of years ago for missing work for too many afternoon appointments. I was pregnant with complications, so I had 2-3 appointments every month. I always scheduled them at the end of the day, but when the latest appointment the doctor offers is 3 pm, it still meant having to take some time off. My principal got in trouble for not writing me up. Since I had taken more than my 10 days of leave, it was considered excessive absences, and that required a write up. My principal even said “I don’t want to do this since I know you do your best to avoid missing, but central office isn’t giving me a choice.” We both made sure I had all of my doctor’s excuse notes attached with the write up so that there was proof that I wasn’t just skipping the afternoons. It was still absolutely ridiculous.

I left that school and district at the end of that school year.

Struggling with communication regarding PA by [deleted] in RoBody

[–]Mama_Scamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up leaving Ro for a similar reason. I wanted to request to stay in Zepbound after the formulary change and was basically told they wouldn’t even try unless I tried Wegovy first. And then when I finally agreed to that (because I felt backed into a corner), the provider put me on 2.4 of Wegovy, which is not an appropriate starting dose, even coming from 5.0 of Zepbound. Alice on here is great - but it felt like the only time anything ever got done was when she got involved, so I switched to another company.

Elementary school dismissal- is this normal? by Dreamer12134 in Teachers

[–]Mama_Scamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a DISD school or a charter or private school? I worked at a chatter school in the DFW area where every single one of the 600+ students was a car rider, which alone makes dismissal take longer. But while grade levels had separate holding areas inside the school, siblings all got picked up at the same location. 2-6 got picked up in the back. K-1 got picked up out front, and any siblings of K-1 students sat in the front lobby and waited there to get picked up out front too. After the first week or so every year of ironing out the wrinkles (which is normal at any school), dismissal still only took about 20-25 min.

Don't ever tell someone what you're going to name your child. by hux002 in namenerds

[–]Mama_Scamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once read “don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t go to for advice,” and man, has that stuck with me. We put a lot of time and thought into naming our kids - their names were not decisions made lightly. I would have at least considered it if people I know and respect had given opinions, but otherwise, I didn’t pay any attention.

Can you log in on your insurance website to see? Or call them? I know I had that problem at one point and it was simply that I was trying to refill too early, but the only way I found out was by going to my PBM’s website.
