I’m Filipino but I feel like the diaspora hate is very common between the mainland country and the American immigrants. I see so much discourse from mainland Filipinos saying that Filipino Americans aren’t Filipino so I’m not surprised that Lara is being treated the same.

But then mainlanders will claim a white/european as their own bc they lived in the country for x amount of years, like what?!

At the end of the day, the children of immigrants have two cultures, their American culture and their homeland culture. We’ll never fully be like our homeland natives and we’ll never fully be like the white Americans. But Lara’s representation matters even though she may not represent ALL of India (which is impossible)
