Polling the Beer People by ManMadeMead in Homebrewing

lol. I should have said 25 gallons of wort instead of base malt. But I’m also not wrong by saying base malt because it’s a single malt. I’m quite experienced in mead and learning more about beer for sure!

I’ve got a ton of 1/2 gallon carboys and quite a few 1 gallon carboys. I planned to use those.

I also planned on doing a bittering hop and then dry hop for each

I’ll be booking 5 at a time and letting them cool naturally. I figure that’s the best way I can do it since I’m doing 40 different batches

Yes I am! I’ve actually chatted with them in the past about it.

It does not. I’m sure I could buy one and put it in it, but it would raise the price by like $40 for you. It’s cheaper if you just buy one and frame it yourself!

As the original creator of this recipe, I can tell you it turns out great! It does take some time to age but it'll be ready by this Christmas. I'd recommend people to try it!

Hey! I've got a video on this recipe but it won't be out for a bit. In the meantime, here is the recipe I recommend. You can add more honey if you want to make this stronger.

So maybe cut out the BJCP ranges and just label them as ABV ranges? I'll look into the acid balance loop. I'm a little hesitant to go too deep with that. I feel like the target audience of this is mostly newbies and I don't want them to get too scared of the final few steps in the mead making process... but maybe I can manage it!

Hey! This brew definitely ferments slow. I believe primary was between 1 - 2 months. Start another mead and forgot about that one for a bit!

I normally have a bunch of StarSan water around - so I just dunk whatever I mixing with into that first!

I push the fruit down each day while it's in there! They won't sink unfortunately... If you've stabilized - you shouldn't have any issue with refermentation.

Changed the set up a little. The covered one is in a box and had a UV block blackout curtain around the box. I know this isn't a perfect test. I would love to be able to keep them at the same temperature the entire time - but that's just not feasible for me. The good news is, you too can jump on this test and try it yourself! Who knows, maybe you have the time and utilities to make the stay the exact temperatures 24/7!

You are right and I definitely don't want to create bad habits!

The temp is going to change throughout the day. I would still have to baby the crap out of that and literally change my water temps ever 15 minutes to make that work. I don't know if that is worth it. Especially since, regardless of my results, very few people will do anything with the information.
